Former Western Provincial Councillor Malsha Kumaratunga, the daughter of former Minister Jeewan Kumaratunga, handed over her mobile phone to the Colombo Crimes Division (CCD) today over an ongoing investigation.
Police said Malsha Kumaratunga arrived at the CCD to hand over the phone following a court order issued by the Colombo Chief Magistrate.
Earlier this month, UNP MP Kavinda Jayawardane lodged a complaint with the CCD over a video circulating on social media.
Sources said that according to the initial investigations into the complaint, it was suspected that the video had been sent from Malsha’s mobile.
However, when the CCD officials have asked her to hand over the mobile phone to the Police, she has allegedly refused to do so claiming that the video had been deleted.
Accordingly, the CCD had obtained a court order.
The investigations also revealed that Malsha has allegedly sent the said video to one of her friends.
The CCD is conducting further investigations as to how she has received the video.
