The final report of the four-member Committee appointed to review the proposed Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) agreement was handed over to Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa at Temple Trees today.
The committee appointed by the Prime Minister under the approval of the Cabinet, reviewed the MCC agreement, which was scheduled to be signed with the US for six months.
The committee, headed by Prof. Lalithasiri Gunaruwan of the University of Colombo took into consideration the opinions and proposals of several and various stakeholders in a number of fields over the agreement.
Former Secretary to the Ministry of Transport Dr. D. S. Jayaweera, President’s Counsel Justice Nihal Jayawardena and architect Nalaka Jayaweera are the other members of the committee.
The Prime Minister's office said the final report with recommendations has been completed following a lengthy and a thorough study and would be presented to President Gotabaya Rajapaksa tomorrow, while the Premier is expected to present the report to the Cabinet.
The new government led by President Rajapaksa suspended the proposed the MCC agreement in December last year and appointed the four-member committee to review the agreement and submit recommendations to the Cabinet. (Lahiru Pothmulla)
