G. G.Amarasiri alias ‘Julampitiye Amare’ was sentenced to death by Tangalle High Court today after he was found guilty of killing two and injuring another in 2012.
Amarasiri of Julampitiya, Middeniya was found guilty of firing shots at a JVP meeting held at the residence of Liyanage Ranjith at Hadiwatta in Katuwana on June 15 in 2012 at 7 p.m. killing two and severely injuring another.
Edirimannage Malani (50) of Thalwatta, Katuwana and 18-year-old J.P.Nimantha Greshan were killed in the shooting while 26-year-old P.N.L.Pradeep Saranga sustained severe injuries.
High Court Judge R.S.S.Sapuwida delivered the death sentence, a prison sentence as well as an order to pay fines. (Ariyadasa Kodituwakku and Chandrasena Gamage)
