Too many supermarkets have cropped up. Each of the use polythene bags in excess of the actual requirement of the customer. Very often I request all the stuff to be packed in one bag. while reducing the cost to them non decaying plastic will circulate less.

Japan is technically developed country. It is better if they can study the case and solve this long standing problem once and for all.Our champions will not solve this problem but drag things up and down finally nothing will happen like before

None of our so called leaders after freedom were capable to lead Sri Lanka to its glory in development in par with other cities in the world.None of them had the knowledge how to manage waste and were dumping garbage in the heart of the city risking the life of their citizen. This is an eye opener and I sincerely hope that these leaders will get expert advise how to solve this issue as there are lot of ways and means.

Independent Analyst Monday, 17 April 2017 07:19 AM

The Bottom line is - even to manage our Garbage we want Foreign assistance, and we lack knowledge. Japan's expertise is (appropriate) needed to for other areas- like Science, Technology, Discipline, Policing, Productivity and mannerism.

If India has made sustainable garbage recycling progress why cant SL follow that system on a countrywide scale? and give its benefits to the upkeep of the environmental free of pollution? why politicians are so insensitive to these very core issue? Colombo city has started to stink

    antonio Monday, 17 April 2017 05:31 AM

How the hell you know whether they have a hidden agenda or not? Is Abe your dad? You retard.

    Manel Monday, 17 April 2017 03:34 AM

Now there will be idiotic politicians and robe wearers who will start demos in Colombo blocking traffic demanding Japanese to do things the Sri Lankan way.

The rate payers of Colombo Municipal Council pay rates which includes waste collection and disposal. The politicians who sit in authority, including CMC, UDA, WPPC should be held responsible as they authorise the waste disposal. Incompetent politicians decide and they do not want to be accountable or responsible. UDA is the prime culprit. if they have done the job in addition to making the pavements, the problem would have been solved long ago with a combined cycle generation plant as in other advanced countries. Probably, Chinese high interest loan not available for combined cycle generation plant.
