Well done, brothers. May you find that all Sri Lankans are one race after all.

    Lankaboy Sunday, 18 February 2018 01:21 PM

This is also conscripted land from private owners and SLA is cultivating coconut trees there. This is absolutely rubbish. These land should be released to their owners as soon as possible. These people are living in makeshift facilities for more than 30 yrs.

    shameer Sunday, 18 February 2018 01:28 PM

Very good move. All nationalities should be in the army.

    Ranjit Sunday, 18 February 2018 05:30 PM

We Sri Lankans have one nationality. Do you mean different ethnics?

    Brainmaster Sunday, 18 February 2018 01:39 PM

That means farmworkers. via DM Android App

Giving job is good ,but Is it call reconciliation? People are urging their own lands in those area, but army doing farming in civilians lands .. Giving labour works in the Army!!!!! And end of their service what is their designation?

The only way to the peace is understanding among races and religions. Racism is the weapon of politicians to gain power. If you spread racism it will lead to the factions and separatism. So understand who are the ones want to separate this country.

Pls tell this to your so called national leaders, hope you have seen the comment made by our FM after the local election!

    Saman Sunday, 18 February 2018 02:35 PM

    Hautaum Sunday, 18 February 2018 02:40 PM

Employment is always good, coconut palm who has owner of the land?

    Lankan Sunday, 18 February 2018 02:41 PM

They are not joining the army to protect the country, basically they are enhanced labourers for the army!

Real Peace Sunday, 18 February 2018 03:01 PM

We need a national army to grow coconuts? Never heard of this anywhere else!!

    Wedage Sunday, 18 February 2018 03:49 PM

Best of luck for all of them.

    Sanju Sunday, 18 February 2018 04:49 PM

Really ? So the army have recruited Tamils to farm for them. To plant coconut in the drought stricken peninsula. Are we expected to applaud ?

Martin Milton Sunday, 18 February 2018 04:54 PM

Excellent idea but there had better be close monitoring of these individuals for some time. Access to weapons must come at a much, MUCH later stage. MM

Lord Wolfstein Sunday, 18 February 2018 05:56 PM

It is not the job of the army to cultivate coconuts

Mwevyn Fernando Sunday, 18 February 2018 06:33 PM

There is nothing wrong in farming and planting coconut trees. Jaffna Man has been unemployed for about 30 years without their lands. If they are not highly qualified nothing wrong in army soldiers doing farming if there is no war. Provide employment irrespective of Sinhalese, Tamils or Muslims without feeding the donkeys in parliament.

    Buddhist Sunday, 18 February 2018 08:15 PM

Why only non-combatant posts? Are the combatant posts only reserved to Sinhalese? All Sri Lankans should be treated equal.

Good money chasing doubtful people !
