Dr. Sumith Pilapitiya, who resigned as the Wildlife Department Director General recently, said in an exclusive interview with Daily Mirror that he did not want to work for the government or in a public sector background again.
“I am not talking about this government or that government. I do not want to work for the government or in a public sector background again. If the department needs my help, I am more than willing to help them only on a voluntary basis.

There are no places for genuine people in public sector. If you are genuine, seek some other place. That is immaterial which government in power.

Sumith, we admire you. One may say, you should have known the perils of public service, but you gave it a try not once man times. However, do not retire; there is much to be done outside the public service.

It's so sad our country is not blessed enough to have honest people in the government. Dr pilapipya is an honest very educated and a well respected GENTLEMAN. This is srilanka's loss.

Why did he make comment like this? what really happened for him to go to this extend? He should have been more articulated. However seems like a good guy who has a legitimate doctorate, people like Dr. Pilapitiya should come to politics in order eradicate uneducated morons in the parliament.

Good to see there are still a few who can make these decisions. Yet, there are a good majority who don't understand the meaning of resignation for fear of losing their perks. The SL administrative service is filled with political appointees who can only decide for the political bosses and not for the betterment of the country.

Our disgraceful politicians should learn a lesson from honest and dignified sons of Sri Lanka. It is often said that honour and dignity is self inflicted, regrettably our politicians have none of these qualities.
rasheed Friday, 29 July 2016 12:21 PM
Yes, at least he can say this now without any fear or threat, if it is previous Government, by now he will be missing.
Citizen Friday, 29 July 2016 12:11 PM

These are the very few people left in this island who believe in ethics, principles and discipline. We praise him for all that but unable to give him his righ place because our leaders, society and citizens are exactly the opposite. Shame Sri Lanka Shame.
