President Gotabhaya Rajapaksa today said he would form a government that can implement his policies to create a prosperous country.

Addressing the nation following the swearing-in-ceremony in Anuradhapura, he said he was committed to implementing the people-friendly manifesto.

The President said priority would be given to national security under his administration and requested all communities to join hands with him in the journey towards a prosperous Sri Lanka.

“We want to be neutral in our foreign relations and stay out of any conflict amongst the world powers. We will have our fullest commitment to achieve the sustainable development goals of the United Nations,” he said.

He said meritocracy and technocracy would be promoted at all times and that corruption will never be tolerated under my administration.

“The government should always set an example to society. Professionalism and efficiency should be the cornerstone of the administration,” he said.

It is very nice to hear all these promises. Let us wait and see your progress in the first year. Whatever you do please do not treat minorities are slaves. If you want a prosperous country you need the support from the minorities. You can win the election without minorities but you can't make the country prosperous without their support.
