Finance Minister Mangala Samaraweera yesterday dismissed the criticism, over his recent response to a statement made by Colombo’s Archbishop Malcolm Cardinal Ranjith, saying he stood by what he said.

“What I said was correct and I stand by it,” he said in response to a journalist at an event held at Royal College, Colombo.

When asked about the joint opposition’s pledge to continue criticising the minister’s response, he said, “The JO can come to Colombo again, stage a protest and show its incompetency,”

Yes Mangi. You are correct. Those who violate human rights are against human rights activists.

Do not pls talk about JO when the whole government is a farce

The Hon. Minister of Finance is taking about what? He is apparently not bothered about the current economic situation and the hardships the people are undergoing getting worsened day by day and addressing and wasting his precious time and energy on matter that concern him at all. These are our Hon. Ministers!

This may be a way of diverting the attention from the more important economic ruin of the ordinary people and demise of the rupee. By the way, what is the qualification of the Hon. Minister to be in charge of this important ministry? At this time, don't we need people of the calibre of NM and Ronnie to look after the country? Perhaps the minister should be put in charge of Human Rights and Eran or Harsha asked manage the economy. Perhaps Ravi may be better qualified than this minister?

Well said Minister. Those who were keeping quiet during MR era abuses are now coming forward and talking rubbish.

Ala are you one of Mangalas boys

    BuffaloaCitizen Friday, 28 September 2018 05:18 PM

If yes, what is ur problem? Do u also want to be his "boy"?

    Ravi Friday, 28 September 2018 05:25 PM

Every one is entitled to their opinion yet the Archbishop made a complaint to MR about the opinion expressed by Mangala. These are the people called the God’s representatives on earth.

    Nimal Friday, 28 September 2018 06:21 PM

I agree with the minister. There is nothing for him to withdraw from his statement, because we as Christians believe when God created man, he was created in His own image with all the rights. Human rights are well incorporated in Christianity.

The way to go sir, when everyone else does damage control after putting their foot in the mouth and goes: "What I meant/said was....."! Refreshing!
