President Maithripala Sirisena is reported to have raised concerns about the failure on the part of the government to contain the rising cost of living at Tuesday’s Cabinet meeting.
For the second time, the Cabinet took up the matter for discussion with some ministers criticizing Industry and Commerce Minister Rishad Bathiudeen for failing to control the high living costs.
It is learnt that the President, at one point, said the government would even find it difficult to face elections given the way the cost of living was increasing at the moment. (Kelum Bandara)

max Thursday, 26 October 2017 10:33 AM
Yes for sure Mr. President. We are eagerly waiting for elections to give you a clear message for your broken promises and the current mess the country experience due to your lame leadership.
Sunil Thursday, 26 October 2017 10:36 AM
Irrespective of the rising prices, the government cannot face elections after nurturing notorious crooks, appointing criminals as party organizers and unashamedly infringing on the democratic rights of the people. Is this the yahapalanaya that was promised?
Deva Thursday, 26 October 2017 10:38 AM
We are also waiting until the elections come to give the answer to the rudderless incoherent government
Sharon Thursday, 26 October 2017 10:43 AM
Government can't face any thing, not only elections...
MP Thursday, 26 October 2017 10:45 AM
Excellency the President, not only high cost of living, the planned high tax on people for each and everything would be a big drawback for the government.
Lakshman De Silva Thursday, 26 October 2017 10:46 AM
Excuses not to have elections as the Government will be badly beaten
MP Thursday, 26 October 2017 11:16 AM
Not only soaring cost of living, but also things like huge taxes imposed on things like medical charges, bank interests which is the sole income of old people, unsettled SAITM issue, etc. would definitely bring a drawback to the government.

Fucka Palalanaya Thursday, 26 October 2017 11:37 AM
Then reduce your foreign trips, number of useless ministers and your facilities and packs. Then you can reduce the cost of living and you can think about the country development. MR regime and yahapalanaya are doing the same thing.
cheers Thursday, 26 October 2017 11:38 AM

DillonDP Thursday, 26 October 2017 12:48 PM

Upul Thursday, 26 October 2017 04:10 PM
Talking is useless.... Do something about it. At least start doing simple things like cutting down unnecessary expenses and punishing ( I mean real punishments) the corrupt individuals.
Doug Thursday, 26 October 2017 04:19 PM
did you only realize now, wake up Mr. president, you have been sleeping on the job.
Lanki Thursday, 26 October 2017 04:27 PM
What I observe is that JO members who do not have any voter base are today making comments which are given prominence in the media on a daily basis. Unfortunately the Yahapalana members, both from UNP and SLFP are hiding in the bushes and not coming out to protect the actions of Yahapalana Govt. President and PM should make a roster that at least 15 members of the Yahapalana Govt to come out and make statements on a daily basis. This is the only way to counter JO actions.
Hesh Thursday, 26 October 2017 10:20 PM
yeah lets pay taxes to hear statements on a daily basis. Typical UNP moron without any love for the country.
UNPer Thursday, 26 October 2017 07:32 PM
UNP will win elections. SLFP will be wiped off the map. Thank you president for doing what even JR could not do. love you.
