The Health Ministry said today a maximum retail price (MRP) for face-masks had been stipulated after traders were found selling them for exorbitant prices owing to the coronavirus outbreak.
Accordingly, the MRP of disposable face-masks and disposable surgical face-masks (both non-woven: ear-loop or tie-on type) stand at Rs.15 each while an 'N-95' (particulate respirator) face-mask should be sold at a maximum retail price of Rs.150.
“Legal action will be taken against those who sell face-masks at rates higher than the MRP. Stringent action will also be taken against those who hold back stocks,” the ministry said.
Meanwhile, the government announced that an individual would be allowed to purchase a maximum of five surgical face-masks through registered outlets until further notice. (Chaturanga Samarawickrama)
