Yes, these are exempted but the goods producers have to face the increase of other expenses, and will result in higher prices. For example, eggs are exempted from VAT but when the poultry feed price goes up with other expenses, eggs' price too will increase.

The UNP traditionally does not have a lot of support of the working class. It looks like they just lost the support of the middle class.

They should not have exempted these. Still our people will make a hue and cry. So might as well tax it all.

There are thousands involved in Jewelry Manufacturing Industry. Also we have to compete with other countries who produce these at lower rates.(Particularly China) This is an attraction for the foreigners to purchase Gems and Jewelry. I think it is a very good move.

So our phone bills, high as they are not exempted? And we'd have to pay more to watch Animal Planet?

    Katie Friday, 28 October 2016 11:48 AM

Yes the phone and TV bills are not exempted. No matter which government or who comes, its the middle man that gets hit. VAT on doctor consultation should be exempted. Ravi K has only made the rich man richer.

    Dihan Thursday, 27 October 2016 09:37 PM

George Harry Friday, 28 October 2016 12:44 AM

Shhhhhhhhhhh!!! Do not spoil the soup, its big business being involved by cheap politicians like Ravi himself.
