Eight people including former UNP mayor of the Nawalapitiya Urban Council have been arrested for gambling at a restaurant in Ginigathhena last night.
Police said officers of the Watawala Police and the Hatton Division Crimes Unit carried out the raid following a tip-off.
They said the suspects were arrested on charges of violating the Quarantine Prevention Act.
The arrested suspects aged 28 and 40 were identified as residents of Hatton, Nawalapitiya, Ginigathhena, Ambagamuwa and Lakshapana.
They are to be produced in the Hatton Magistrate's Court today.(DSB)
