Election Commission Chairman Mahinda Deshapriya has informed Speaker Karu Jayasuriya that he had informed President Gotabaya Rajapaksa of his intention to retire from his post, Speaker’s media unit said.
The heads of independent commissions appointed by the Constitutional Council are required to inform the CC of their intention to retire. Speaker Jayasuriya is the current Chairman of the CC. (Ajith Siriwardana)

Hope we do not get a stooge like the former commissioner Dayanada Dissanayake who cannot be traced now. He disappeared for 2 to 2 hours when the 2010 polling count was in progress.

Even I have not meet/or talk to you, I heard lot about you even before you talk the A/L exams about your abilities as well as straight forward behaviour. You have done a fabulous job. I wish you all the best.

An impartial, serving Government Official should be appointed to this position as a secondment. Deshapriya attended many government and private functions and uttered many things that are not related to his job. He acted more like a politician than a Chairman of an independent commission.
