Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe gave instructions to the treasury yesterday not to grant even a cent for the importation of vehicles for ministers and MPs until funds were allocated to build houses to replace those destroyed by the floods and the blast at Kosgama, and to renovate the partly destroyed houses.
He gave this order in accordance with the government’s primary policy (in the Yahapalanaya), which is to provide relief to the people.
It was further stated in the prime minister’s directive to first calculate the sum required to provide relief to the affected people and that, until this exercise is complete, the treasury should under no circumstances make allocations for the purchase of vehicles for ministers and MPs.
Accordingly, the supplementary estimate to purchase vehicles will be suspended until the requisite funds are allocated to provide assistance to construct houses to replace the destroyed ones and to repair the damaged ones. (Anjula Maheeka Weeraratne)

I can't wait for the exceptions to start applying.Like, unless really needed, or, unless orders were placed 5 minutes before I gave this order.

You seemed to be one of those "Rata-kewath-api-Kola patai (Nil Patai)" people. Importing luxury vehicles while thousands are groveling to eat is a "wonderful work" eh? Aiyo, aiyo!!

You cannot be serious

Well said Sir,Hope your instructions are carried out

No doubt this is wonderful news! But, Mr. Prime minister, I hope you see this.. The government agencies seriously need to revamp their ability to provide information of such disasters and conduct evacuation of people in harms way much more promptly. You don't have to make a huge difference. Employ a couple young teenagers or twenty something year olds such as myself, who are well equipped with social media and can share these news items fast via Facebook, Twitter, Instagram etc. Instead of blaming children for being glued to their mobile phones, turn that into something more useful! :) that's all. You're doing some wonderful work sir and I'm glad I voted for you!

Mr. Prime Minister, your the best thing that ever happened to Sri Lanka. Keep up the good work. Follow the money trail and put those who stole from the people of sri lanka in prison.

The allocation of funds on paper will happen soon followed by the import of vehicles. When the money is requested for the housing work the work will slow down for want of money

Just to hoodwink the people. Unless please give an order to completely stop it.
Premalal Friday, 10 June 2016 10:44 AM
You wont cut any ice with the people anymore so stop bullshitting. The resentment of the are building rapidly.
Daham Friday, 10 June 2016 10:35 AM
He should have stopped it before one minister made the proposal in the parliament and got approved. This is just an eyewash.

Its time even the ministers tighten their belts and lead by example and not so-called suspended purchases.
De Silva Friday, 10 June 2016 10:24 AM
Just to fool the masses. Finally they will go ahead with the proposal

Appreciate it man! This is better decision rather than importing vehicles during this critical period. No one is ever going to say no to getting government benefits. Its the truth.
Silva Friday, 10 June 2016 10:08 AM
Welcome move but there are many other priorities than imports of vehicles for MPs, India still use locally made AMBASSADORS for all their govt. officials, why not consider our MICRO vehicles for our MPs now ?
