Defence Secretary Karunasena Hettiarachci today said he had briefed President Maithripala Sirisena regarding the incident, where Eastern Province Chief Minister Nazeer Ahamed allegedly rebuked a naval officer.
He said the Navy Commander had handed over a report regarding the incident yesterday morning.
Mr. Hettiarachchi said, the President had left the country yesterday and further decisions on the matter would be taken when he returned.
“I can’t take any action regarding the matter as it is connected to a politician,” Hettiarchchi said.
