Neil Aruna Fernandopulle alias Daluwakotuwe Neil had been arrested by the Special Task Force (STF) for the illegal possession of ammunition and two air riffles in Daluwakotuwa, Kochchikade yesterday.
STF said a team led by OIC of the STF Intelligence Division CI Nadika Silva acting on intelligence information had searched the suspect's residence on charges of illegal possession and use of firearms.
Initially, the STF recovered a licensed .38 special revolver and 10 legally issued .38 special live ammunition from the suspect's possession.
However, further inspection of the suspect's residence revealed that he was also in illegal possession of 16 rounds of .36 live ammunition, 5 empty cases of .38 special ammunition and two foreign-made air rifles.
The 45-year old suspect was handed over to the Kochchikade Police for further investigation along with all the weapons and ammunition on suspicion of being involved in a criminal act.(DSB)
