The Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) announced that three-and-a-half hour daily power cuts would be imposed till Friday (21) with effect from today due to a breakdown at the Norochcholai Coal Power Plant.

CEB Spokesman Sulakshana Jayawardana said the country had been divided into four zones and power supply would be disrupted for two-and-a-half-hour during the daytime and one hour in the evening for each zone.

However, he said the power cut would not be imposed in Colombo, at hospitals and Industrial zones.(DS)

It is not the fault of plant but poor maintenance of distributing lines..Plant get auto shut up for its protection .If MR not set this plant up then what is the situation ..Vladimir Putin has declared open Krundamkulam nuclear power station in south India last weekend. So India will insist our puppets to buy their electricity and not allow us to built our own.

It is time this "breakdown" power plant is replaced. It is done its duty, that is made way for huge commissions and if you in uniform you are immune any punishment. The "yahapalanaya" doctrine. Nice!!!

    Sudu Monday, 17 October 2016 09:46 AM

There is no issue with the plant just that the gov cant afford to run it We are at a economic crisis people. via DM Android App

MR has the looted Commission money in billions out of Noraicholai. Why not get the money back and rectify that matter soon.

    Why ???? Monday, 17 October 2016 10:29 AM

Why Colombo is Privileged are the others 3rd Class Citizen.

    blackparrot Monday, 17 October 2016 10:31 AM

Do-it-yourself for power consumers.......How can our industries be competitive internationally? who will invest in the country with such a volatile electric system ? First we have to do our homework and guarantee uninterrupted power supply countrywide.

Ahh JO talks of Back to Mahinda but still his great work fails

A good robber always distributes his loot. That is why even the present regime is moving with reluctance on many issues.

    BuffaloaCitizen Monday, 17 October 2016 10:58 AM

We have history of ruling with privilege. SWRD bought "Sinhala only" to blind privilege for Sinhalese, MR built airport harbor conference center and even shangrila in Hambantota to blind privilege the poor farmer, now Aiyo Sirisena wants to provide privilege for Armed forces persons who took part in criminal activities...ohoma yang.

    K shantha Monday, 17 October 2016 11:04 AM

If not for the norichcholie plant, we will be in the dark for next 5 years. Guys do we have any positive plan to put up even one alternative power plant? ??NO Then why criticise the existing plant ?MR is no more in power. People have got fed up with stories of MR's commisions and recovering commissions so that people can be given bracelets.

Tell PM to get his votes from Colombo come the next election

Kadupol Jothywansa Monday, 17 October 2016 11:07 AM

MR along with Pavithra earned in billions on this project getting down rejected machinery from China and filled their pockets. Now the Govt. should penalize them and get the commission money back.

Manuel Benjamin Monday, 17 October 2016 11:09 AM

As MS is going to invite MR to be the PM, all these black outs are usual. SriLanka will expect darker days in the years to come.

    3rd World Citizen Monday, 17 October 2016 11:27 AM

I called the CEB regarding this and this is what the operator or technician told me - "This is a 3rd world country. We are poor and underprivileged." Amazing answer and quite right too. For once, they were honest. It would have been better if he had mentioned that the ministers are incompetent and only interested in filling their own pockets. Ah well.

    ryan Monday, 17 October 2016 11:31 AM

not his fault, these fools can't maintain those. at least he done those grate works

    rasheed Monday, 17 October 2016 12:03 PM
