Coming weeks will be crucial for Sri Lanka as important discussions could take place with the European Union in reviving the GSP plus status, government sources said.
A three member team from the European Union including EU Parliament MP Anne-Marie Mineur, Lola Sanchez Coldentey and Ben Vanpeperstraete are already in town to study the Sri Lanka situation while there is a possibility of Chairperson International Trade Committee of European Union visiting Sri Lanka shortly.
Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs Dr. Harsha De Silva who confirmed that there may be the possibility of Chairperson International Trade Committee of European Union visiting Sri Lanka shortly told Daily Mirror that the Sri Lankan Ambassador in Brussels has extended a verbal invitation to the chair of International Trade Committee of European Union to visit Sri Lanka though there is no confirmation of his visit yet.
However, it was reported that the resolution on reviving GSP plus to Sri Lanka will be taken up by the European Union on April 19. The Government has already stated that Sri Lanka could regain GSP by May this year. (Yohan Perera)

to heck with gsp...tho Im no fan of MR .. like his stance on this....did we not survive without GSP....its a carrot the EU gives to beat countries with a beating with sticks...their culture may accept certain ways of life...which might not be best for SL....see how the last tried to install DEMOCRACY in certain countries....which ended up killing millions of ppl n no sign of normalcy in sight....Laws of our country dont need yo be changed to accommodate these idiots...Ranil n Mangala will do ANYTHING to get homosexuality a way of life....God made Adam and Eve...NOT...Adam and Steve or Eve and Eva....when we go against nature we btr be prepared to experience the wrath of God... via DM Android App

GSP plus should not be extended to fish exports. We have been used to eat fish for thousands of years. The prices have sky rocketed after fish exporting commenced. The poor cannot afford to eat fish and now rely on imported tin fish and paripu for a meal. The imported fish is contaminated with heavy metals and does not find a market in europe, hence sent to poor countries.

Not only Muslim marriage law but Sri Lanka Govt. has to pass the SUTHTHU` (aTamil word) law. Ponil said that we will get the GSP in March. Where is he now? All lies like Vokswagon tale.
