The Colombo Fort Magistrate today issued an order preventing a protest organised by the Frontline Socialist Party (FSP), condemning the murder of George Floyd, from taking place outside the US Embassy.

The Magistrate had issued the order considering Section 106 (1) of the Criminal Procedure Code. The order was requested by the Colpetty Police OIC in order to contain the spread of COVID-19 in the country. (Yoshitha Perera)

No one has the right to take away the right to protest. Look at what is happening in USA and rest of the world. As all in Sri Lanka know whether it be the Magistrate or Judiciary in Sri Lanka is a joke now.

    Good move indeed.....

Few wild animals got killed for money, but no protest was held. Sri Lanka must focus on reviving the economy to pay loans, reduce mosquitoes and stray dogs to expand the tourism industry. Sri Lanka fought the Asia's largest civil war for decades, it just can't simply preach to the world. Plus Sri Lanka can't compete with the world powers in any way, shape or form. Mind your own business and deal with your countryman's criminal deals.

Rukmini Attygalle Wednesday, 10 June 2020 05:41 PM

Antony Peter has completely lost the point. The protesters are expressing solidarity with a movement trying to end brutality towards black and coloured people. They are not preaching to the world nor are they trying to compete with world powers. They are merely stepping out of the selfish stance of "minding our own business" and standing up for the ideal that all human beings should be treated the same way. We are not only citizens of SriLanka but we are citizens of the world too.
