One year after the 52-day political crisis, Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe today said that the country has a responsibility to protect the democracy that was protected through the 19th Amendment.
“Today I look back on the day that democracy in Sri Lanka faced its biggest threat. I thank everybody who fought to save their country from anarchy. It was not my fight but our fight and together we prevailed.”
He also thanked Speaker Karu Jayasuriya for safeguarding the democracy in the face of numerous threats.
