Western Provincial Councillor Shanmuganathan Kuhavardhan, who was arrested for allegedly defrauding cheques amounting to Rs.72 million, today accused Democratic People's Front (DPF) Leader and Minister Mano Ganesan of taking political revenge and trying to destroy his political career.
The Councillor, who was the Deputy General Secretary of the DPF, was arrested by the CID on December 26 for allegedly defrauding cheques amounting to Rs.72 million but was released on bail by the Mount Lavinia Magistrate.
Addressing a media briefing yesterday, the Councillor said Minister Mano Ganesan had removed him from all positions in the DPF fearing that he would become a prominent politician, other than Mano Ganesan, in the DPF.
“On December 26, I had to experience a situation similar to what happened on October 26 in the Sri Lankan political history. I was asked to report to the CID on December 26 to record a statement over a business matter of mine. But a few minutes after I arrived at the CID, Minister Mano Ganesan published a message in the social media stating that I was removed from all positions in the party. It was a political revenge and I have proof. It was like he was waiting to remove me,” he said.
The Councillor said he had not received any official letter about his removal from the DPF. However, he said he was planning to resign from the party for months and said he would continue as an independent member of the Council.
“I have dedicated my money, time and everything to secure seats in the Western Provincial Council for the Democratic People's Front. I am the reason for Mano Ganesan's current position, but he is slinging mud at me,” he said.
Councillor Kuhavardhan said he would answer to Minister Mano Ganesan at an upcoming election, whether it is a provincial council or parliamentary poll.
“Several DPF councillors are with me and they will support me in the future,” the Councillor said.(Darshana Sanjeewa)

I was surprised to see this guy talking some nonsense while being accused of defrauding. This shows he is definitely guilty for the crime.

Mr.Kuhawardhan, Please don't talk nonsense. You were removed from all office in the party because you were arrested for allegedly defrauding cheques and not for fearing that you will become a prominent figure in the party. May be Mr. Mano Ganeshan was fearing that his party will be destroyed, if he kept people like you in the party.
