Container vehicle topples blocking Colombo-Kandy main road

One lane of the Colombo Kandy main road was blocked at the entrance of the Colombo - Katunayake Expressway (E03) at Thorana Junction due to a container lorry toppling over, police said.

They said one side of the road leading to Colombo had been blocked creating a huge traffic congestion.

Therefore motorists were advised to use alternative routes.

The container driver and the cleaner were admitted to the Colombo National Hospital.

Yes correct. I definitely agree on this. These heavy vehicles are one of the main reasons for traffic jams. Poorly maintained

Some of these container drivers drive such huge vehicle as if it is a 3 wheeler. Only sharp turning at higher speed will topple a container truck. This obviously a drivers fault.

This is the reason why former President Premadasa brought in the rule where containers and transport of building materials etc were permitted to travel only between 9pm to 6am. I think the government should bring in this rule once again.
