Compelled to take major TU action: GMOA

The Government Medical Officers’ Association (GMOA) today said it was reluctantly compelled to go in for a major trade union action next week as the government had failed to offer a reasonable solution to the SAITM issue.

GMOA Assistant Secretary Dr. Haritha Aluthge told a news conference that they had waited nearly two months by giving necessary time to the related authorities to arrive to a decision on the issue.

“The GMOA’s Executive Committee will announce an exact day on Monday for the trade union action,” he said adding that they also wrote to President Maithripala Sirisena on the gravity of the issue.

He said the GMOA discussed the issue with the President at the special committee meeting which has been appointed by him to investigate the matter.

“We did not receive any reasonable solution to the South Asian Institute of Technology and Medicine (SAITM) in Malabe during any of these instances. We always wanted to resolve this issue by protecting the patients’ lives during this battle,” he said.

Meanwhile, GMOA Secretary Navin De Zoysa said that the GMOA was still waiting for the President’s intervention on the matter, stressing that they were willing to go for further discussions on the issue if the government would offer them an opportunity. (Kalathma Jayawardhane)

These stupid doctors bringing dis-reputation to the whole medical profession, because they have ill gotten monies the can send their children abroad, children those who does not or unable entre the local medical school with minimum necessities could attend a private medical school. Government should discuss with SLMC laid down on Private Medical education policies. When did the Doctors dictate educational policies of a country. GMOA has been hijacked by the JVP thugs who tried to ruined the country earlier, If the government has a back bone should Sack the whole GMOA mafia, who want's tax free cars, Colombo schools for their children ect otherwise strike, should get rid of them. What does the Assistant secretary means when he says that the GMOA always wanted to protect the patients' lives during this battle? Does he mean that they no longer want to do that by going for major trade union action? These hypocrites earn their riches through the suffering of humanity. They draw their power by holding hapless patient's lives at ransom. They are so imbibed with pride that they think that they are even above the law by not waiting till the supreme court gives a ruling on the issue. By their trade union action they become guilty of crimes against humanity, manslaughter and contempt of court. Therefore, the government must have the courage to declare their trade union action illegal even it takes to declaring a state of emergency and break their back once and for all and free this country from this bunch of terrorists.

Why dont the government consider cancelling their salaries on the days they go on strike. It was the public who spent money for their medical studies, This GMOA is not a professional organisation. It does more trade union work. It is also funny that the President and the other rascal members of this union are life long members in this trade union. They never change. Any other professional body will allow only two years the most for the executive council.Don't allow these thugs to channel the patients in the afternoons while they go on strike. These thugs are a curse to the country and more to their old parents if they have any!!

Does GMOA has the right to take trade union action? They can take trade union action only if it affects the Government Medical officers regarding their employment, like salary, working conditions, promotions, facilities etc. SAITM is not affecting any of these to my knowledge.

GMOA is trade union which is always look after its members right. We cannot belive that the GMOA mafia is protecting the patients’ lives in Sri Lanka. If you look at the history of GMOA, they killed many patients in their trade union actions. Government officer do other job are illegal. Actually, government hospital doctors also do not have legal right do private practice.

SAITM issue is hearing at supreme court now. GMOA has no right to take trade union action on that issue. Doctors should obay the law of the country. The court will protect the patients’ rights. GMOA is a trade union.
