Referring to MP Chathura Senaratne’s wedding reception held at the hall adjoining Temple Trees, Deputy Minister of Public Administration and Management and Law and Order, Nalin Bandara said the MP had paid Rs.2,180,000 (Two million one hundred eighty thousand) to reserve the hall.

He told a news briefing that there was no misappropriation of public funds because he paid for the entire cost of the wedding such as for decorations, food and beverages.

“Some MPs are claiming that public funds had been spent for the wedding. It was not so,” the deputy minister said.

“Those who make baseless allegations about this wedding, must not forget how Temple Trees was used during the Mahinda Rajapaksa regime.” (Sheain Fernandopulle)

and in fact it's public property.

    Sumal Wednesday, 05 September 2018 09:08 AM

    Suresh Tuesday, 04 September 2018 06:43 PM

Since when do they make reservations so close to the booking? Most hotels need one year in advance

    ANTON Tuesday, 04 September 2018 07:00 PM

AND ....... THEY COULD HAVE SPENT THE HONEYMOON AT THE SACRED PARLIAMENT.

    Cleanman Tuesday, 04 September 2018 07:12 PM

Surprising,, it was dated 31-08-2018, so closed to the wedding ... something fishy .

    Ram Tuesday, 04 September 2018 07:32 PM

    Prakash Tuesday, 04 September 2018 07:50 PM

Why didn’t this guy issue his own personal cheque, why a Manager’s Cheque was issued? Can it be the case someone who benefited from father or son paid on behalf of this chap?

    Raj Wednesday, 05 September 2018 09:35 AM

Use his personal and all will know his bank account number. Using bank cheque will ensure his bank details will is not be publicized in the media.

    Saranga Tuesday, 04 September 2018 07:52 PM

    This much money??? From where

    Rasheed Wednesday, 05 September 2018 02:29 PM

Do you expect a Minister's son to have the wedding at Municipal Reception Hall? If he had used his personal fund there is nothing to fuss. Even ordinary people spend much more than this. amount.

    ravin Tuesday, 04 September 2018 07:55 PM

Tax department, please investigate on priority basis how he earned that amount of money. Surely it was not sponsored by government pharmaceutical suppliers.

Justica USA Tuesday, 04 September 2018 07:58 PM

Quite an amount to spend, which occassion was graced by WW n Sujatga akka of JO..comes to mind the 21st Bday celebration of Keheliyas daughter in NEW YORK, just the cake cost US$12000×162=1,944,3000.00All can afford to be lavish AFTER being elected to a position as a politician. Pretty soon parents would want their children as future POLITICIANS instead of Doctors, Lawyers, Accountants or Businessmen

    SL Tuesday, 04 September 2018 08:17 PM

The cheque just say it is for secretary to the prime minister and the value. It does not say it is from Chatura or for what purpose. Cheap effort to cover gross misuse of public property.

    Jaliya Tuesday, 04 September 2018 08:43 PM

Well … nice try macaroon you forgot to add the tropical nuts in to the cookie mix. Apparently, the payment was made after the wedding and on the day the story was first reported by the daily mirror. [ http://www.dailymirror.lk/article/Hall-for-Chatura-s-wedding-Proper-procedure-followed-PM-s-office-154858.html ] same date of the check … I would like to ask the PM and his secretary whether you send Chatura an official invoice or an agreement with the figures attached in advanced ? [in advance meaning prior to the date of the wedding] if so when ? What are the written procedures on this rent out business when a public office is rented to a Govt official ?

    Lal Tuesday, 04 September 2018 09:01 PM

Dear friends, Anyone who knows how to reserve the hall , plz tell. I an ready to pay in advance.

    Ravi Wednesday, 05 September 2018 08:32 AM

Mr Ivan Dissanayake, are you scared to open a tax file and send a assessment notice to Mr chatura Senaratne.According to your theory with his salary he can afford to pay taxes to the state.

    Premalal Thursday, 06 September 2018 09:49 AM

Ivan Dissanayaka have you forgotten that there are companies whi have 165 million rupees in their vaults? And a guy is living in luxury with that money. Are you sleeping?.

    suresh Wednesday, 05 September 2018 08:34 AM

all these JO supporters kept quiet when MR built this unnecessary structure to hold 5 star dhansals

    Imtias Wednesday, 05 September 2018 09:27 AM

Surprised to see the comments on the cost.Comparatively 2.1Mn is nothing extravaganza.

    Ravi Wednesday, 05 September 2018 09:25 AM

    Official cheque.. still public fund..

    Sanath Wednesday, 05 September 2018 11:06 AM

The payment made is one side of the story. However, using the country's Prime Minister's official residence for such purposes is diluting the dignity of the place. Such a situation cannot be tolerated, and the place should not be downgraded to a mere reception hall under any circumstances
