Amidst scenes of queues building up at filling stations fuelling fears of another petrol shortage, the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation (CP) said on Sunday all its depots had been provided with ample stocks of fuel and therefore there was no reason to panic.

CPC Chairman Dhammika Ranatunga informed Daily Mirror that 27,479 tonnes of 92 Octane petrol were available in the facilities at Kolonnawa and Muthurajawela.

He said the owners of fuel depots had been instructed to be on standby as stocks would be delivered to them shortly.

There was a text message that had been circulated yesterday about a petrol shortage in the country. (Thilanka Kanakarathna and pix by Nisal Baduge)

Thanks DM for not getting information from trade union leaders. We the citizens want to know the actual situation and not the views of trade unions. When will Sri Lanka learn?

If this government says that there are no fuel shortage I think I'll pump my car full-tank just in case.

There also seems to be an abundance of kerosene oil - to dilute the petrol.

Long queues of 3 wheelers, cars, motor cycles and bottle buyers in front of petrol station this morning. Reason? Sufficient petrol stocks in Muthurajawela and Kolonnawa? Wonderful inversion of Petrol Brothers!

The obvious question any body could ask is that if there is no fuel shortage why they want fuel station to be standby and CPC speeding up delivery. With hectic work schedule no one want to waste time at petrol stations. This problem will persist in Sri Lanka
