The objects were found in a cave(Fa-Hien) in Sri Lanka and include the oldest known bow-and-arrow technology outside Africa, dating back to 48,000 years ago, new research published in the journal Science Advances revealed.

The research described evidence for bow-and-arrow hunting toolkits alongside a complex symbolic repertoire from 48,000 years before present at the Sri Lankan site of Fa-Hien Lena—the earliest bow-and-arrow technology outside of Africa. “As one of the oldest H. sapiens rainforest sites outside of Africa, this exceptional assemblage provides the first detailed insights into how our species met the extreme adaptive challenges that were encountered in Asia during global expansion,” it said.

Sinhalese were not living in Sri Lanka then, so who are these ancient clever people, most probably they are Tamils. If you draw a 1000 mile radius circle from the central Sri Lanka then it covers the region on this earth that predominantly from ancient times belongs to the Tamils.

Thiru, This article is about 50 thousand year old objects used by humans found in Sri Lanka. Tamil or Sinhala languages were not spoken that time. There is no evidence of similar objects of the same period found in southern India to claim that those humans originated from there. Most probably south indians were living on trees that time.you have to let go of this Tamil Vs Sinhalese thing. If you have forgotten primitive Tamil backsides were well and truly kicked by the Singhales recently.

No one knows the truth but you can’t deny the fact that Sri Lanka is lying in a Tamil region of over 85 million Tamils and the Tamil language is one of the oldest languages in the world.

Boss the only 2 things defining a person to a country right now is not Sinhala or Tamil but their birth certificate and passport. Both of them say whether you are a Sri Lankan or an Indian. 80 years back both these nations didn't exist. 100 years from now it may be the same again. we can never be certain.

As a Tamil Catholic, we are proud of the language being probably the oldest unchanged one. Many of us do not speak it. Any facts regarding its ancient history is not a weapon, and proves nothing. Also, It is unlikely that race as we know it today, existed 50k years ago. In addition, talking about it now, serves no useful purpose. One Lanka, for Lankans, in which other religions peaceably exist, with their own identity, in a Buddhist culture. Spoken of with love, by our Cardinal, who is probably the most respected religious leader in the country (also not a political statement!)
