Higher Education Minister Bandula Gunawardana said today that he is still hopeful of building the Homagama International Cricket Stadium.
Mr. Gunawardana told Daily Mirror that he was eager to have such a playground in his electorate of Homagama.
He said he intended to raise financial donations from well wishers to proceed with the project .
“When I was the Education Minister, I managed to get buses from Japan as donations to be given to the schools. I also got green boards as donations from South Korea to be used at schools instead of traditional blackboards,” he said .
Likewise , he said he would seek similar assistance from his well wishers to move ahead with the present project in Homagama if there was no approval to raise loans. (Kelum Bandara)

Are you mad? When all cricketers are against it, you want to waste all that money for a white elephant purely for your glory? Don't disgrace your party also. You will not get credit but only blame for it if you proceed. Anyone who contribute to such a project must be mad to do so.

Bandula. This is the difference between you and the president. It is not about the capital money. It is first about the priority of actions. Secondly, if built, it must be managed and maintained. Who will provide operation and maintenance money? Who could bear the additional power supply load to the network? It is not as simple as building the stadium, put a name and run away. Don't create a white elephant. The president should control these people.

Originally the plan was to build the homagama cricket stadium using SRILANKA CRICKET money, not government money. Now that money is to be used to develop school cricket. If bandula wants He can build the stadium using his personal money.
