The former President Mahinda Rajapaksa said yesterday, that there is a plan by the government to take into custody the former Defense Secretary Gotabhaya Rajapaksa.

The main thrust of this government is to imprison him and members of the Rajapaksa family, MPs who are supporting him and senior state officials, he said further.

The former President stated these facts while addressing the 20th conference of the Samurdhi Development and Agricultural Research Production Assistant officers held at the Colombo Sugathadasa Indoor Stadium.

He said further that State officials are being imprisoned using the term public property, and the FCID has been established to take revenge from the Rajapaksas and those State officials who are with them. (Amaradasa Silva)

Why attempt? He should have been arrested along ago. The former Minster of Justice states in parliament that Gota will never be arrested. This man Gota, should have been arrested a long time ago. He was a government servant with OL qualifications who swindled public funds.

    shanthapriya Wednesday, 22 November 2017 10:53 AM

Dont worry Unchikun, Our Maha sanga will look after Gota and the country well. As mentioned by you Gota s qualifications was more than enough to crush LTTE and diaspora as well as to save Tamils in our country

    Saliya Wednesday, 22 November 2017 08:00 AM

There has been surreptitious moves with the blessings of certain hostile nations to corner Gota as he appears to be a dark horse.

    BuffaloaCitizen Wednesday, 22 November 2017 10:01 AM

Dark horse??? My foot, he is a white van!!!

    punchinilame Wednesday, 29 November 2017 06:36 PM

Plus 27 murders atWelikada Prisons !!

    Kadiya Wednesday, 22 November 2017 08:07 AM

Well, if he's guilty of crime he should be arrest, tried and incarcerated. Nobody is above the law. Does MR think that he's living in the same era as he was before he got kicked out?

    Wijesiri Wednesday, 22 November 2017 08:09 AM

Outsiders who are nervous about the govt's future do not want the return of MR under any circumstance.

    Yeti Wednesday, 22 November 2017 08:14 AM

Mahinda's message is exclusively for the benefit of the Maha Sanga who will naturally make a hue and cry about this. They will complain, 'poor Gota this is what he gets for defeating the terrorists'!!!

    cheers Wednesday, 22 November 2017 08:20 AM

This is a good lesson as when you were in power you did not punish any UNP'r next time ensure the whole clan is i jail including FCID which is politically appointed

    PV Wednesday, 22 November 2017 10:52 AM

Do you think they will come back to power next time.Continue day dreaming.Majority people are not so foolish.

    alex Wednesday, 22 November 2017 08:26 AM

Oh really, ....that is long over due

    gamini Wednesday, 22 November 2017 08:27 AM

Why on earth is a "former President" addressing the 20th conference of the Samurdhi Development and Agricultural Research Production?

    BV Wednesday, 22 November 2017 03:08 PM

That shows how politicized this organization is.

    AshyD Wednesday, 22 November 2017 08:43 AM

If there is evidence that Gotabaya, has committed an offense, he should be arrested and produced before the court. He is NOT ABOVE the law.

    Adwani Thursday, 23 November 2017 06:14 AM

Not only the evidence there witnesses who threatened to not to lead evidence.

    TONY Wednesday, 22 November 2017 08:43 AM

ANY ONE WHO VIOLATES THE LAW HAS TO BE PUNISHED IRRESPECTIVE OF THEIR POLITICAL CONNECTIONS. RAJAPAKSHAS WILL FIND ALL POSSIBLE TECHNICAL ISSUES TO ESCAPE PUNISHMENT

Jaffna Logic Wednesday, 22 November 2017 08:49 AM

Revenge is one of many human characteristics it's antidotes are class(80%), education(10%) and for about 10% we have no antidote. When you were in power you used revenge to about 70% but the present government has some class and education so whatever they do it wouldn't exceed,say,40%.

    Asoka Wednesday, 22 November 2017 08:53 AM

So whats wrong in that...? The wrong doers should get imprisoned. This country belongs to all Sri Lankans, not only for one particular family or a party. Thieves must be jailed without of their race, family background, religion and power. Even a deaf and blind person knows what happened after the war.

    C.K.Lankaputhra Wednesday, 22 November 2017 08:53 AM

Our question is nothing but why the government is only arresting midgets and exempting giants. There are enough grounds to arrest them. But the law is slow.

Ronnie Bugger Wednesday, 22 November 2017 08:56 AM

so what, Gota has not fallen from Heaven, has he. Just another common citizen sharing the same privileges as the man on the street. If he is to be arrested, so be it. Same goes for you too.

    nick Wednesday, 22 November 2017 09:04 AM

thats a good news for u as Gota gearing up for the next presidential election which can ruin ur career so be happy via DM Android App

    BuffaloaCitizen Wednesday, 22 November 2017 09:08 AM

These same culprits get bail in few days and thereafter infinite freedom. So why worry?

    johan Wednesday, 22 November 2017 09:09 AM

MR is seeking sympathy from publicLaw is applicable to everyone. If there is proof that he has committed fraud in Avant Grade he must be arrested. It is poor shame in Sri Lanka the cases are delayed last two years according to whips of some powerful politicians behind all cases of VIP

    ceylon Wednesday, 22 November 2017 09:33 AM

mahinda is not in real world now.is it that so difficult to arrest gota or mahinda.jyst remove mahindas 200 us security and gotas 50 plus security.tbey will directly go to police head quarters for protection. via DM Android App

    Labby Wednesday, 22 November 2017 09:59 AM

The fact is that Gotabhaya's arrest is long overdue.

    vasaliya Wednesday, 22 November 2017 10:03 AM

MR and his clan still thinks they are above the law and getting arrested for wrong doings is not right "ape hamuduruwane". GOTA should have been arrested a long time ago.

    punchinilame Wednesday, 29 November 2017 06:41 PM

He has set up a back-guard of Yellow Robesto take to the streets in such an event!

    Park Wednesday, 22 November 2017 10:05 AM

Who the hell is Gota? If he has committed crime he has to be taken into custody. If the charge is something where no bail can be awarded then he should not be given bail. He is not GOD.

    VJ Wednesday, 22 November 2017 10:54 AM

MR is so desperate to stay out of jail. It seems he will lose this battle. The army chief who won the war was bullied, humiliated and jailed by MR in a hurry. Why not Gota? Sooner the better, people are slowly losing faith in good governance.

    s.shiha Wednesday, 22 November 2017 11:23 AM

    It is remembered as before

    RR Wednesday, 22 November 2017 06:24 PM

Your point has no sense in the real world. No one is perfect.

    Sanath Wednesday, 22 November 2017 01:58 PM

If he had done wrong, yes he should be arrested and the prevailing law should be enforced.

    Doug Wednesday, 22 November 2017 03:52 PM

Why is he above the law.

    SAM Wednesday, 22 November 2017 04:08 PM

Unless you do their job and let the law and order do the correct judgement, You might end up in the soup.

    Chari Wednesday, 22 November 2017 04:26 PM

If we a playing into the hands of the diaspora. Good Luck SL...

    saras Wednesday, 22 November 2017 04:27 PM

Not to worry Sir, It is the same musical chair game to be played. Arrest, sick and bail and the game over.

    Lanki Wednesday, 22 November 2017 07:53 PM

President has said that he will not allow any soldier to be taken before foreign courts. Which means no Sri Lankan will be taken before foreign courts. But Gotabaya is not a Sri Lankan he can and should be taken before UN Courts. President does not have any obligation to protect Gota who is not a citizen.

    Dee Wednesday, 22 November 2017 11:01 PM

Long over due. Must get the national flag ready.

    VMS Thursday, 23 November 2017 01:05 AM

How could anybody arrest Gota. He is a man of honesty. Gota worked so hard to defeat LTTE. Gota never took a cent from the government.

    SeriouSena Thursday, 23 November 2017 02:21 AM

The entire family must be imprisoned in the Hague for crimes against humanity! Murdered our own Sinhalese, journalist, Tamils, Muslims, ruggerites, protestors, tourists and foreign citizens, NGO aid workers, prisoners, businessmen and those who opposed the family MAFIA.

    lioncar1 Thursday, 23 November 2017 03:36 AM

Instead of arguing and debating over the media if Gota did or did not do this or that why not prove all these accusations in a court of law? End of story.

jack dunholm Thursday, 23 November 2017 06:05 AM

As a foreigner watching the antics of the Sri Lankan legal system and its so call attempts at bringing criminal politicians to account , I have to say this........your legal system is a joke. If legal authorities in any European country behaved like this there would be riots in the streets followed by the sacking of the obvious corrupt legal officials.

    MF1986 Saturday, 25 November 2017 03:14 PM

Most of top level state officials are misused public funds and maintain bank accounts in foreign countries. They should be imprisoned

    Gamarala Tuesday, 28 November 2017 12:20 PM

What about all the lucrative companies that were "peopelized" some years ago, that made some people overnight millionaires? Why has nothing been done to investiage how a former Governemnt official purchased these lucrative companies from the then governemnt in the name of their henchman. All that was daylight robbery and no one was punished or made to answer as ot how these lucrative firms were sold under par.
