A A A

Anyone watching the TV in the evenings, would think that there is no country and or a government in the country.

Assumptions are made about what is going to happen the following day. The media reveals the opposite of what is really happening in the country.

The Development activities, people's welfare, the peaceful situation in the country are all portrayed turning these facts upside down, mainly to attract people’s attention.

They always show tense situations and destructions, said President Maithripala Sirisena at Ratnapura after declaring open a children’s ward.

Philanthropists Punsiri Tennekoon, Priyantha De Silva Subash Karunarathne and American national Louis Allen had spent Rs 100 million in constructing this two storey children’s ward.

The President went on saying that he was happy to have officiated at this opening of a ward that would cater to the sick people of Ratnapura, and he had made frequent visits to this hospital for various development activities done at this hospital.

He said that he attended a state officials meeting in Gampaha in the morning where emphasis was made about the anti-Dengue activities and garbage clearance work. There were reports of landslides in the Ratnapura District resulting from unauthorized mining and construction of buildings without following stipulated conditions. (Ajith Lal Shantha Udaya and P. A. A government of the people, by the people, for the people, shall not perish from the Earth. Abraham LincolnPLEASE CONSIDER THE ABOVE IN EVERY ASPECT OF GOVERNANCE -EVEN ELECTING MINISTERS AND MEMBERS WHO WERE NOT ELECTED BY THE PEOPLE.

    Peter Wednesday, 05 July 2017 01:16 PM

Unlike then, now media tell the truth

    dilip Wednesday, 05 July 2017 01:31 PM

Thank you sir for coming out with the pure truth.

    Premalal Wednesday, 05 July 2017 03:47 PM

A person is elected President not to be a nice guy but to govern.

    Senewi Wednesday, 05 July 2017 03:55 PM

Sir,You also get to know lot of things happening in the government only when you view the TV

    Killa Wednesday, 05 July 2017 03:57 PM

The govt propaganda is weak. SL was jsut the same during MR era but MR had better propaganda

    SW Wednesday, 05 July 2017 04:02 PM

    Excellent comment!

True Patriot Thursday, 06 July 2017 12:07 AM

Rajitha Senerathna gives me the impression that he is running the affaires in Sri Lanka. Whichever govt. he is serving is his govt. first, and scondly the elected govt. Where do people find specimens like this. He is boasting that he helped form this govt. What a flop? If there is one sensible leader in this govt. he should come forward and admit and declare we have failed misseraberly.

asoka seneviratne Thursday, 06 July 2017 01:21 AM

I have a great deal of respect to President Sirisena for the decent way he is running the country. i.e no white vans, no thugs, no large scale family nepotism, no dissapearences of media men, no foolish rich car races and interference to law enforcement and courts, etc.I would think that SL Presidents should start making a weekly address to the nation for 10 or 15 minutes to tell Lankans what his government is doing to address issues and any development work that goes on. Additionally they should do a press conference at least once a month. This will create a great deal of transparency to any administration. US does it.

you dont need to watch TV to think about it . just watch the roads the way three wheeler drivers and motor cycles run on the roads , no lane rules they occupy all the lanes police just watching tough action by mouth no in reality. this is a classic example what more evidence to think in that passion

    ceylon Wednesday, 05 July 2017 01:08 PM

not only watching tvbut any one living in country also.knows there is no government. via DM Android App

    Jema Thursday, 06 July 2017 05:20 AM

    Jema Thursday, 06 July 2017 05:30 AM

But, don't worry. because we wont have a country to worry about after the new constitution

    Alston Thursday, 06 July 2017 05:55 AM

Well said Mr. presidentAlso suggest to bring the culprits of previous regime to success without further delay

    Namaste Thursday, 06 July 2017 10:22 AM

Well said Mr.President, but your fault, always call for meetingand waste the time of the officials rather than directing them to attend and report within the required time.Further, the poor villagers are mostly their welfare is overlooked appoint officers( Better from the JVP members)) to report of their situation living conditions malnutrition, economic factor, school going children situation.Let International forum and meeting follow other way.Don't wait till the media bring to your notice. Please do this immediately, don't wait for Pradesha Saba to full fill these things, as they have no experience, with social education and needs. Action ,Action,Action..

    TVscreener Thursday, 06 July 2017 10:41 AM

I fed up with the TV news daily the same

Tharu Bansa Friday, 07 July 2017 07:37 AM

Mr. president, You had good intentions, but that is true. It was a result of partnering with UNP. While UNP is a fine as a whole there are a lot of UNP guys with no talent but good at Hora-Palanya!

    Sunny Friday, 07 July 2017 09:52 AM

At last yo realized what you have done to the country. A nation without a government

Rhonda Taylor Friday, 07 July 2017 11:01 AM

You a perfectly correct in what you say Mr prez. All the Doctors/ Politicians/ Lecturers and those who step out of line should be sent home packing. Surely there are qualified people in the forces and others who will volunteer to serve the sick. Politicians are the worst. All those who served in the previous regime should be sacked forthwith. They are the foxes who spoil the good wine. Close down all free education institutes. Let their parents pay for their children's education. Didnt we pay for our children. Even those living overseas keep questioning us about the the rule of law here? It is so sad as you are such a good man and this reflects badly on your administration. Open your eyes sir, don't feel sorry for these no hopers. Our country is going to the dogs.

    Ken Friday, 07 July 2017 02:51 PM

Ok please tell us what anything substantial this government has done that can be newsworthy.

    hoodwinker Wednesday, 05 July 2017 11:16 AM

Yes! Mr. Prez,Get your act together and deal with issues that matters the public most, ie. transport transport /hospitals hospitals /COL /COL. Development in any front is a regular feature don't waste time cutting ribbons

    Prakash Wednesday, 05 July 2017 10:31 AM

Dear Mr. President, unforurnately preception is reality.

    Siva Wednesday, 05 July 2017 10:32 AM

That is what people experience out there in society. What is wrong in media reporting the truth ?

    Sara Wednesday, 05 July 2017 10:41 AM

Sorry Sir, I think it is the other way around. We think there is a Government, but does the Government think, if we are living in this country?

    kapila Wednesday, 05 July 2017 10:43 AM

To have that feeling no need to watch TV via DM Android App

    brainmaster Wednesday, 05 July 2017 10:51 AM

The President is correct. I really like him. He is NOT weak hes just too kind and polite. The people of SL should be grateful to have such a nice personality as leader compared to the previous. via DM Android App

    Mandy Wednesday, 05 July 2017 10:52 AM

The reality is that the govts info dept and other govt organs of propaganda are very very weak. Absolutely useless. They cannot put forward the govt's point of view - the media only puts out what the other people call news conferences. Has any govt organ done that?

    MAJ Wednesday, 05 July 2017 10:55 AM

Of course, there is no need to watch TV to feel that there is no government.

    Citizen Wednesday, 05 July 2017 10:59 AM

Do you say we have Gvmt or President? Wow. Happy to know it.

    Manyshya Wednesday, 05 July 2017 11:08 AM

Dear President, You are spot on. However, you are the executive president of this county. Why don't you do something to turn to situation better?

    kapila Wednesday, 05 July 2017 10:29 AM

Mr President the good thing I admire of you is that at least once in six months you express the truth. Not only watching TV it is the truth. There is no government in this country.

Tax Payer Wednesday, 05 July 2017 11:17 AM

Not only when watching TV, Sir...wherever we go in Sri Lanka, feels like there is no govt in control.

    Mercedes Wednesday, 05 July 2017 11:19 AM

Yes, Mr.President.What you say is true. Anyone watching TV, reading newspapers, listening to the radio and practically seeing and experiencing things happening thinks, feels that there is no Govt. nor a leader in this country. That is because there is more than one Govt. seems ruling the country. Each minister tries to impose his own rule, GMOA dictate rules, Buddhist clergy does as well, JO, North, East exercise their own rules etc. No transparency and no firmness in most of the legal Government's decisions have caused this chaos. No one seems to be responsible for the problems of the common citizens, for eg. garbage issue and all other shortcomings in every sector. The fault does not lie in the News Media if so it is only about 15%.The rest lies in the elected Govt.

    Vigilant Wednesday, 05 July 2017 11:26 AM

Yes it is true there is no governance and government.

    RD Wednesday, 05 July 2017 11:37 AM

It is true - media shows the opposite. Actually Dengue is an epidemic now which is denied by all including politicians and media. Media reports Yahapalana is in power but actually it is not that

    Lal Wednesday, 05 July 2017 11:56 AM

TV? why watch third class gossip Sri Lankan TV, there are plenty of classy foreign TV channels to watch.

    Roman Wednesday, 05 July 2017 12:07 PM

Not only TV, even news papers (sure you know better)

    King Wednesday, 05 July 2017 12:15 PM

Sir, what we see is poor management in overwhelming number of ministries and an incompetent team on your side.

    Manoj Wednesday, 05 July 2017 12:25 PM

People are confused as to who is ruling this country. The GMOA, Asgriya Chapter or any other trade unions. The government should take firm stand and rule the country and the media should support the president and the government

    Premalal Wednesday, 05 July 2017 12:34 PM

You need not watch TV to realise that there is no government in the country. Check this out.Doctors have their way,Garbage piles up in citiesPostal strikeVictims of Natural disasters languish.Law and order non existent with minister deciding who to arrest.Corruption rampantDengue rampant chocking hospitals. The currency is crashing.Debts piling high.Parts of the country sold to foreigners. But then there is a government for some.Ministers get and sell their duty free permits,Corruption is covered up by appointing a plethora of commissions. Now who needs TV?
