It is inhuman. Do it like in Germany. With the exception of prisoners on remand, inmates can use special card-phones to call their friends and relatives, that are set up in the social area, provided they are doing well. The prisoners are given a phone card on which the prison administration can store up to 10 contact phone numbers. Only these 10 numbers can be called. It can only be landline connections whose owners have been checked beforehand. No incoming calls. Every phone call is recorded by the prison. Calls can only be made if a credit has been paid into the card account.
