Condemning the statement made by MP Bandula Gunawardena that it was not proper to couple the GCE A/L examination results of national and international schools, Education Minister Akila Viraj Kariyawasam said the MP was attempting to destroy free education in the country.
"The MP has said the GCE A/L results of national and international schools should be released separately. According to what he say international school students could only sit for international exams and claimed that when he was education minister he had never allowed international school students to sit for national exams," the minister said.
He said the MP who used to be a private tuition master before his ministerial post was making baseless claims in keeping with his narrow political agendas.
"Any Sri Lankan has a right to sit for any examination conducted by the examination department. It does not matter whether the candidate has studied at a national or international school," the minister said. "As Education Minister, I should remind MP Gunawardena that the Examinations Department cannot act in an irregular manner when issuing examination results. The children of our country have a right to study in any school in the government or the private sector. We cannot allow anyone to challenge or to destroy their rights." (Chaturanga Samarawickrama)
So true Mr. Kariyawasam. Bandula's comments are disgusting and shows that the SLPP appeals to crass minded people.

Bandula is unhappy because only students from national schools attended his tution classes. He should have been made Minister of Tution Education.

Apart from that I was wondering why there is a Health insurance for school Kids while health care is free in Sri Lanka. Is this an attempt to privatize health care in Sri Lanka?

I think education minister does not know about system of education. A student from international school can not be admitted in government school after grade 5. So many parence give money to principals and admit their children in government school im the vitness.

The tuition master is a foul mouthed guy when he was teaching. He used filthy language to attract the students. He made a lot of money by his tuition fees. Now he is telling about the privet school and public school education.
