Matale District Secretary D.P.G.Kumarasiri who retired yesterday after completing an illustrious service of 33 years, handed over his official vehicle and documents to the relevant heads of department and returned home by bus.
Mr. Kumarasiri was a senior officer in the Public Administration service had served in Anuradhapura and Nuwaraeliya districts before being appointed as the District Secretary for Matale.
During the send-off party, he said , "I am happy because I was able to send the resignation papers to the secretary of the Ministry of Home affairs 5 months prior to my retirement at a time when government officers tend to seek extensions of service before retirement. I got used to working intimately with the staff rather than giving orders. I did not criticize government policies and acted to implement them. I request all other officers to discharge their duties with commitment without committing mistakes” (M.W.Somaratna)

Mr. Somaratna, you are a great example for today politicians and government workers, I can remember as a child, when Dr Dahanayaka lost his PM post he got into a CTB buss and came to Galle from Temple trees, also he was standing till Atluthgama, as he had refused the seat offered by an another passenger. This was in the next day papers.

I heard from a friend of mine who worked for BOI that Sajin Vass Gybawardhane's father did the same thing when he was asked to give resignation by CBK's government. So father-like-son.... See how sincere the son has been, particularly making all efforst to discipline our high commissioner in UK.

When Dr Colvin R de Silva heard that he had been deposed as a minister in the Sirimavo government he was somewhere in Badulla. Promptly surrendering his official vehicle to the GA concerned, Dr Colvin returned to Colombo by train ~@~

Yes, this is O.K. However, this officer's act clearly shows that he is not aware of his entitlements for his position. He should have requested his driver to drop him at his residence after the office although he retired on the same day.

Yahapalana leaders should learn from this kind of honest and straightforward officers. I am happy about him because I was also from the same service (SLAS).
