Parliamentarian Hirunika Premachandra and eight others were today indicted in the Colombo High Court by the Attorney General over the alleged abduction of a youth in the Dematagoda area.
The Attorney General had filed the indictments on 29 counts against the suspects.
Earlier, the suspects had been produced in the Colombo Chief Magistrate's Court at a non summary trial and they are now out on bail.
The victim, Amila Priyanga, was alleged to have been abducted by the suspects.
The entire incident was captured on CCTV cameras, and the footage was later used by the police to arrest the suspects. (Shehan Chamilka Silva)

Nothing will happen to her and she may get a rousing welcome on return from courts. Then she will be qualified even for a post of cabinet minister!

How come perpetrators and the chief culprit Hirunika are totally free on bail for a serious crime such as kidnapping and abduction? This is proof that our law and order and judicial system is still incompetent and heavily manipulated.

Dear All,Do not jump the gun. wait and see the out come the court case.At least now the matters are being handled in a systematically. The MP herself wouldn't have instructed, but her over-enthused supporters would have done - unilaterally without her consent, for a cause - which in her mind is to prevent a young family breaking-off. Some times good things are done in a wrong way.Be happy that a sitting MP is being prosecuted withing 3 months, since the offense had been committed.

This is a drama to prove that the law and order is prevaling in the country. She will be out soon because there was not enough evidence.

I must say this young lady did try something real good, to save a family break up and further destruction but unfortunately she got in to a soup. I hope at the end everyone would realize her good will gesture?
