A team of experts with some sense of diplomatic relations should be sent to Russia which suspended the import of Sri Lankan tea, joint opposition member and Parliamentarian Bandula Gunawardana said today.
He said Russia was the biggest importer of our tea and as such this matter must be solved as soon as possible and the issue was much more than the detection of an insect in the packaging of a consignment of tea.
“It goes without saying that Sri Lanka's international image has been tarnished by this,” the MP told a news conference. (Sheain Fernandopulle)

FIRST APPOINT A TEAM TO INVESTIGATE HOW THAT DAMN INSECT CAME TO A PACKET OF TEA.
Freddy Yong Tuesday, 19 December 2017 09:02 AM
Only blended teas are shipped to Russia, so there is no way a full beetle could have gone in except the insect was in the packing bag.

It wont be a surprise if the this guy put the insect. The only thing these people want is to bring down the government by hook or by crook.

I am surprised to see this comment from a former Minister of Trade. The visit by the Ministers is for damage control. Everyone knows there was a bug in the tea package. The visit by the Ministers in to apologize and explain as to how it will not happen again. This is diplomacy. Bandula may have been a good tuition master. He is an novice at International trade, this is my humble conclusion. Oh! Could be it is just for political milage.
