46 remanded for prison turmoil

Forty six prisoners were remanded today, till March 13 on charges of having been involved in the January 25 riots at the Magazine Prisons.

The Colombo Crime Division (CCD) told Colombo Additional Magistrate Praharsha Ranasinghe that in the course of their investigations they were able to identify 59 prisoners of whom 46 were arrested and produced in Court while 13 others were still to be arrested.

The CCD said property and equipment estimated to cost Rs.4,700,000 had been damaged though the actual cost of damage has not been worked out. (T.Farook Thajudeen)

    police and prison department had a hard time to arrest those whom were already in the prison....a prisoner or a remand prisoner what ever the meaning of the word they all are in a jail house...why take time to arrest the other 13...? just go to their sells and call their names...
