Forty three Indian fishermen and five fishing trawlers found poaching in the Sri Lankan waters had been arrested by the Sri Lankan Navy in the seas off Kankesanthurai, this evening.
Navy Spokesman Commander Kosala Warnakulasuriya said the fishing trawlers had been moored at KKS Naval camp.
Meanwhile, Indian media reports said fishermen in Rameswaram received information that the 43 fishermen had been apprehended by the Sri Lankan navy
Among the detained, 28 fishermen on three boats hailed from Karaikal in Tamil Nadu, while 15 on two boats were from the Nagapattinam area, according to U. Arulanandam of Alliance for Release of Innocent Fishermen at Pamban, Rameshwaram. (Chaturanga Pradeep)
