Twenty nine Indian fishermen and seven fishing trawlers found poaching in Sri Lankan waters off the North-Western coast of Talaimannar were taken into custody by the Navy on Saturday.

Navy Spokesman Kosala Warnakulasuriya said the fishermen had violated the International Maritime Boundary Line and were using the illegal method of bottom trawling.

He said the fishermen together with their trawlers would be handed over to the fisheries authorities in Thalaimanner for legal action.(DS)

Well said Izmy. This would have been a great gesture by the SL Navy and also will send a signal to the TN authorities that the arrests were made due to violations and not due to any ulterior motives. Hope the SL navy takes the matter forward.

Here we go again. Why can't we as a goodwill escort them back to their territory. Since M.R & Modi few days back only met and we had the opportunity to come to an understanding on many issues.Someone wants to destabilise this country.
