Ceylon Chamber-CCPIT investment and trade forum conducts 400 B2B meetings

The Sri Lanka-China Investment and Trade Symposium jointly organised by the China Council for Promotion of International Trade Zhejiang, Zhejiang Chamber of International Commerce and Ceylon Chamber of Commerce (CCC) was held in Colombo on November 23.

The Investment and Trade Symposium saw the participation of just over 120 businessmen from Sri Lanka, while the Chinese delegation included 77 Chinese businessmen and officials. The one-day forum, which was held at Hilton Colombo, saw the counterparts holding a total of 400 business-to-business (B2B) meetings.
Before the commencement of the B2B meetings, an inauguration ceremony was held with the participation of Industry and Commerce Minister Rishad Bathiudeen. Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) Zhejiang Provincial Committee Vice Chairperson Chen Yanhua, Chinese Ambassador to Sri Lanka Yi Xianliang, CCPIT Zhejiang President Wu Guiying, Export Development Board Chairperson Indira Malwatte, Board of Investment Chairman Upul Jayasuriya, CCC Secretary General/CEO Mangala P.B. Yapa and CCC Sri Lanka-China Business Council President Navindra Abeysekera also graced the occasion.
The Chinese delegation was mainly looking for co-operation in the areas of project investment, technology transfer, research and development, cross-border mergers and acquisitions, patent licensing & brand cooperation, products and service subcontract, as well as setting up branches and sales network.
Businesses covering the areas of agriculture, auto parts and components, chemical, construction materials and machinery, e-commerce, energy, fishery and forestry, food processing, garments, infrastructure, service industry, textiles and trading will be among the delegate participants.
During the forum, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between the CCC and The China Council for the Promotion of International Trade Zhejiang Provincial Committee to promote trade, investment and tourism development between the two countries. The Chinese delegation mainly comprised of businessmen from the Zhejiang Province, located in the southern part of Yangtze River Delta of the southeast coast of China.
