    lankan Tuesday, 24 November 2015 01:58 PM

SLMC has no issues with private universities overseas BUT with private universities in Sri Lanka......... KUHAKA-KAMA at its best!!

even if all students learn well, there would always be students with sub Z scores due to the limited seats even if they are all geniuses.

It is high time to start private universities. It should be in a transparent manner and with proper regulatory system. The higher education system should be free from the Govt clutches. All most all the countries in the world have private universities and most of them are par excellent.

This is very funny thing to demand to practice in govt hospitals. They are not purely selected students.

We have 38% of the population as farmers (V.Poor). we have 2.8 million foreign employees serving with dependent 1:3 ration which 10 million (45% of the population poor of the poor). Free education should be the subsidy that this country have to secure.

Be Fair Tuesday, 24 November 2015 08:42 PM

How Funny, they get free education, they become docs, rips us apart at private hospitals, gets a vehicle permit. We just sit pretty going thru the mess.

We are living on protests from university students to blast third grade politicians have gone crazy and mad. This is one of the reasons why we should specify at least a university degree to become an MP as fools with nothing will not understand. I am so disappointed the oppositions attempt to bring innocent confidence motion against Ravi who presented an outstanding budget proposals. Yahapalanaya will not work as these idiots are out to create problems for MS N RW. The Rajapakse thirds and cronies must be arrested and kept incommunicado . Follow the late MrLee of Singapore Sri Lanka will progress

Free education = paid for by taxpayers. People who benefit from education gets super rich. There is no need of it to be "free" them specially if you become rich outta it. You need to pay back to the govt.

    Samaaan Tuesday, 24 November 2015 09:29 PM

So many countries including the US and UK are doing these funny things? How come they have good knowledge economies?

    harsha Tuesday, 24 November 2015 09:50 PM

Y only med degree is restricted for private education? Wht SLMC shd do is, have a proper selection process to issue licences to medical personnel just like hw the licences are issued for Lawyers, Engineers, Accountants etc by their respective professional bodies.

    Fassey Tuesday, 24 November 2015 10:23 PM

Government university students are very selfish They want everything free. Bright students who did not get university entrance too have all the right to become doctors. Thry are not troubling the government, but their parents are spending for them. Government hospitals should not at least give them a chance to get the training to achieve the required standard. After all they are also citizens of thiscountry.

@lankan - flunked???!! Hundreds of these students got AAA, AAB, or ABB at A Levels. Due to the district quota system they were not able to get a limited place at local university. Your ignorance hurts my brain, it should hurt yours instead!
