Ceylon Tea is well known in Poland and the potential to increase our exports of tea to Poland further is immense. We also urge the Polish business community to look at other agricultural products for import and export to boost the bilateral trade between our two countries, said Samantha Ranatunga, Chairman of the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce addressing the Sri Lanka – Poland Business Forum in Colombo recently.

Exports from Sri Lanka to Poland has increased from US $ 47 million in 2013 to US $ 53 million in 2014, while imports from Poland to Sri Lanka too has increased from US $ 13 million in 2013 to US $ 18 million in 2014. The main items Sri Lanka is exporting to the Polish market consist mostly of the traditional items – that is Tea, Spices, Garments and Rubber products.

Tourist arrivals from Poland have shown a remarkable increase of 38 percent from 9,688 in 2013 to 13,370 arrivals in 2014, he noted.
Sri Lanka imports items such as paper and paperboard, machinery, agriculture equipment, electrical items and iron & steel from Poland.

Meanwhile, to further support establishment of linkages between Sri Lanka and Poland, the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Polish Chamber of Commerce in Katowice in February 2013.

“We need to make maximum use of this liaison between the Chambers to interact closely with business persons from each others’ country.”

“I’m pleased to note that The Ceylon Chamber of Commerce and the Sri Lanka – Poland Business Council continues to maintain a close relationship with the Embassy of Poland in New Delhi for new business opportunities as well as trade fairs in Poland so that our members could develop and expand their business with Poland, Ranatunga added.

Leszek Soczewica , Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Poland Tomasz Łukaszuk, Ambassador for Poland in India,  Ken Balendra, Consul General for Poland, Nazvi Hassan, Vice President of the Sri Lanka – Poland Business Council of the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce were present at the event.
