Kandy Diayawadana Nilame; election on Sep 8

The Buddha Sasana and Religious Affairs Ministry said the election of the new Diyawadane Nilame of the Kandy Sri Dalada Maligawa would be held on September 8.

Buddhist Affairs Assistant Commissioner Parakrama Jayawardana said the election would be held at the Kandy Buddhist Centre Hall and the electors would include the Venerable Mahanayake Theras of the Malwatte and Asgiriya Chapters.
The term of office of the current Diyawadana Nilame, Pradeep Nilanga Dela ended in June this year but was appointed as acting Diyawadana Nilame till the election of his successor.

Pradeep Nilanga Dela, former Diyawadana Nilame Neranjan Wijeyeratne, Sri Natha Devale Basnayaka Nilame Gayan Heenkenda and a former Basnayaka Nilame Sudantha Senanayaka are among the candidates expected to contest for the post of Diyawadana Nilame post.(Darshana Sanjeewa)
