Durdans Hospital, Sri Lanka’s first Joint Commission International (JCI) approved hospital, launched a comprehensive upgrade to its communications systems recently.

Based on an ultra-high speed fibre optic cable network, the new systems include a state-of-the-art multi-media Call Centre, Wi-Fi facilities for guests throughout the hospital, high speed connectivity amongst Durdans 44 and growing island-wide laboratory network and PEO TV facilities for all rooms.
Partnering with Sri Lanka Telecom as the official communications solutions provider and Metropolitan Communications as the official software provider for the venture, Durdans Hospital’s new Call Centre is state-of-the-art for the healthcare sector in Sri Lanka accessible via 0112140000 and short code 1344  through any network in the country.

The opening was graced by Durdans Hospital Chairman Ajith Tudawe, Metropolitan Managing Director Roshan Tissera, SLT Chief Enterprise and Wholesale Officer Kiththi Perera and representatives of the three companies.

Commenting on the launch, Durdans Hospital Marketing Communications Manager Rae Devadason noted, “We are pleased to offer Durdans’ patrons multiple services through this tri partnership. Newly introduced solutions such as free Wi-Fi are a growing need amongst patients and guests visiting the hospital. We have opted for Fibre Optic connectivity which paves the way to a total paperless hospital environment in the near future with the possibility of patients being able to access records online. The 12-agent multi-media Call Centre will handle inbound general inquiries, consultation appointments while also managing outbound calls to specialists, marketing campaigns and patient follow-up programs. Custom designed for Durdans Hospital, the multi-media Call Centre also offers SMS and e-mail notification facilities for patients and consultants.”

Sri Lanka Telecom Chief Enterprise and Wholesale Officer Kiththi Perera commenting on SLT’s involvement with the project said, “I am very appreciative of the management of Durdans Hospital for choosing Sri Lanka Telecom (SLT) as their most reliable Total Communications Solutions partner. We aim to provide them with customised integrated communications solutions to suit the hospital’s requirements of an ultra-fast data network, featuring rich PEO TV facilities, enterprise high speed Wi-Fi, a call centre solution with voice clarity as well as real-time communications. We also expect to further help streamline Durdans Hospital’s medical services through our state-of-the-art next generation technologies and support to improve overall health services provided by the hospital. I consider this a great opportunity and a milestone of SLT to partner with Durdans as the total communication solutions provider which will help us to empower healthcare throughout the country.”

Metropolitan Enterprise Solutions Expert at Rukshan Goonetilleke explained the functionality of the system. “Metropolitan being a pioneer in the communications solutions industry in Sri Lanka is happy to partner with Durdans Hospital in this revolutionary venture. The state-of-the-art Aastra Mitel multimedia communications system and the Solidus-ecare multi-media contact centre with inbound and outbound services is incorporated as a unique solution, where agents will have both the contact centre and operator workstations working in tandem. With voice, e-mail and SMS facilities, the system brings in an integrated solution connecting the hospital, its patients and consultants. The way it has been set up will enhance the hospital’s services through different functionalities of the contact system.”

Durdans Hospital can now be contacted through 0112140000 and Universal Short Code ‘1344’ which has been provided by the Telecommunication Regulatory Commission of Sri Lanka (TRC) whilst other existing hotlines continue to be active.
