3 cops arrested over extorting money from couple

Two police sergeants and a constable driver attached to the police emergency unit were yesterday arrested by the Cinnamon Gardens Police on charges of extorting money from a couple, Police Spokesman Ruwan Gunasekara said.

“They are alleged to have obtained the money from the couple who were inside their car parked in the vicinity of the Cinnamon Gardens Police,” he said and added that the arrests were made on a complaint made by the couple.

The suspects will be produced in the Colombo Chief Magistrate’s Court today, he said. (By Chaturanga Pradeep)
