President Mahinda Rajapaksa today said that he would bring in a new Constitution with the support of everyone.
“I will go toward a new Constitution with the support of everyone,” he said at the launch of his election manifesto at the BMICH in Colombo.
He said the third part titled Mahinda Chintana- Lowa Dinana Maga envisaged preparation and elevation of the country to the levels of developed countries.
“In 2005, I promised peace for all citizens and I delivered that within four years. We developed the country as we promised in 2010. The latest part will make the country a developed one,” he said.
The President said that the country had come to a point where no one could make political promises to provide electricity, water, roads or infrastructure anymore.
“At this election, people should decide if they should go back to an era of destabilised society or go forward with strength and stability. I don't have many agreements like others. The only agreement I have is the Mahinda Chinthana,” he said.

Rana, you will see who will win in the end. It is hard, but it is also the truth.

The main disadvantage for MR is that the average person can only see drawbacks of his government; the popular cheap-gossips about his sons and family, and so on. It takes a critical mind to understand how MR has directed international forces excellently to bring peace and stability to SL. Else, just because mighty India is our neighbor, Sri Lanka would certainly have ended up like Ukraine, a war torn country pulled between West and East. It is critical that MR stays in power till another leader with equal skills and vision emerge. Ranil would have been a good successor to MR if he had the will and the courage that MR possess. As we all can see MS is only a joker....Independent

Ample time was available during the past 9 years but it is never too late.MR should have considered this during last 4years and made necessary chanves to the consituition ensuring peoples rights more emphaticallyand spent time on reconciliation and bring in amity and understanding amongst all races and religious groups in the country. Unfortunately, the advisers around him did not provide him with right guidance.

He had 2/3 majority in parliament and used it only for his and his families benefit. Now talk "Bana".
PGLP Tuesday, 23 December 2014 02:56 PM
Constitution reforms should have been addressed earlier, now it is late on the part of the government. In doing so, advance goes to opposition.
Shan Tuesday, 23 December 2014 02:52 PM
Clean up the Govt. of your kith and kin, Rid of Corruption, use the tax payers money for development. No need of any constitution. You are the sole barrier.

Does the world have to squeeze you to take action against a criminal for the Tangalle Incident? Does the LLRC and UN have to dictate to you on what you did was wrong or right? Do you require the threat of losing your Presidency to declare that you will provide law and order to the country, new constitution where the President will not work with arrogance and impunity? You are a failed leader.
niv Tuesday, 23 December 2014 02:41 PM
New constitution? All corrupted ppl will be appointed to draft new consitition. ;) new commission to draft, money, luxury life for them. Few years working on constitution, then few years getting all parties to get together, then few years to blame each other no supporting to pass in Parliament, even if passed then few years can run sayin we just introduced and obvious there will be cons, and few more years to run saying we are working on improve issues, few years few years. our grand grand chiclren will talk about new constitution and there will be a candidate will start as what maithry does now. So funny SL. Som Ppl think we are fool citizens.
Dr Rifai Tuesday, 23 December 2014 02:39 PM

Nadi Tuesday, 23 December 2014 02:23 PM
The momentum is all one way. Hence the violence ,misuse of state property and inevitable ballot stuffing. Legitimacy has gone. Time for a clean up.
rana Tuesday, 23 December 2014 02:22 PM
You waited till you lost 2/3rd majority to announce this. Also how can we believe you since you did not do this during last two occations. We are not fools.

There is no need for new constitutions. Give us the constitution which the British gave us It was time tested. Not the experimental ones we have had since independence. Please
