India had offered assistance to hundreds of people affected by the landslide at Meeriyabedda in Haldummulla.
Indian High Commissioner Y. K. Sinha spoke to the External Affairs Minister G. L. Peiris and offered the assistance to deal with the landslide disaster which took place yesterday.
Around six line houses of plantation workers collapsed in the disaster and Sri Lankan Army was already undertaking disaster relief.
As per reports, about 200 persons have gone missing. Plantation Estate houses and other buildings were destroyed in Koslanda, Haldummulla and Meeriyabedda. (NDTV)

I owe the prompt help promising by the Indian Government any crisis occurred in Sri Lanka. Hope India will help us to construct permanent house for the community which is never ever carryout out in the country. There are around 100,000 families are still living in the fragile line rooms which were constructed firstly in 1877. If the estate workers to be provided decent house it need only 2 percent of the total tea/rubber producing land (roughly 2500 hectares) on the basis of 10 perches for each family.

As a former colonial power of Sri Lanka ,the British government should come forward to help these estate Tamils whose parents were brought from south India to work in the tea and rubber plantations.Yes when you drink your Ceylon tea for your morning breakfast ,we recall you that these people who have lost everything need your humanitarian help.Without blaming Sri Lankan government in vain,it is time for the British government to show solidarity with Mr. Rajapaksh ,the President of Sri Lanka for all helps.like India

These people who are occupying these line houses could be given two acres agricultural land each in the North or East. So they can carry on their lives.
