While stressing that he is still capable and fit enough to play cricket, Sri Lanka's legendary cricketer Tillakaratne Dilshan said today he was ready and willing to contribute for the welfare of Sri Lankan cricket either as a player or a consultant considering the continuous struggle of the current Sri Lankan cricket team.

Responding to speculations circulating in the social media hinting of his comeback to International Cricket, he told the Daily Mirror that he was ready to return to the Sri Lanka cricket team if Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) or the Ministry of Sports requested him.

“I continue to play my domestic cricket. Hence, it is not a challenge for me to return to the international side again,” Dilshan said.

“I always think of my country. I presume I did my best in cricket prior to my retirement. However, I am of the opinion that I should do something more for my country,” Dilshan added.

Dilshan last played for the Sri Lankan side (in ODIs) on August 28, 2016.

Despite speculation that he wanted to play until the 2019 World-cup, due to certain issues, he had to retire earlier. (Sheain Fernandopulle)

Current players lack confidence, guts, motivation. When we see young players from Afgan, Bangla like countries, actually where we are? Our people are born to boast, they say i'm from this school, i'm from that school, but when they face international level, they are almost struggling. What's the point? In past, captains were tactical, players were united, but now? I see no unity at first and the feeling that i wear this jersey representing my country and i should be proud of that? Do they have it? If they have it, they will not miss school cricket catches. They haven't got the feeling that i should do this for my country for some reason. Dilshan, he has got that feeling if you know him. Arjuna, Aravinda, Sana, Murali, like old players always played their heart out. First mentors shoulf find the reason, then the solution within short period of tike since the world cup is near. Give them guts, they got the talent. Dilshan's come back will be a good chance for us.

Cut down present players money packs. Downsize and cut down Sri Lanka Cricket Board Staff and Coaches. Use it and spend for school level cricketers wisely and bring is young blood. Have local tournaments and include 19 players too on 60 / 40 basis. Let them fight for their positions.
