State Minister Sujeewa Senasinghe, who was accused of receiving monies from the W.M. Mendis Company affiliated to the Perpetual Treasuries Ltd. (PTL) said today that he would donate the three million rupees his campaign team had obtained to social welfare if Speaker Karu Jayasuriya or a Chief Prelate asked him to do so.

He said that he would resign as MP if any one could prove that he personally received funds from the PTL.

Addressing a press conference at his residence in Colombo MP Senasinghe said although what happened was irreversible he would do the right thing to ethically correct the fault.

“It was like having a heart attack. When I first heard of these cheques I was shocked for several minutes. Then I realised that had to face it. I did politics with Principals and I know that I have not conducted anything illegal. I will do politics until people support me and will leave when they stop,” he said.

MP Senasinghe stated that the incident was a small tsunami, which struck him in his political career and was not used to such allegations, therefore he felt like he was entering into actual politics.

He also said according to the dates of the cheques it was clear that the money was supposed to have been received for the 2015 General Election.

MP Senasinghe explained that it was his crew consisting of several friends who have voluntarily conducted the election campaign for him, received the funds.

He said in 2015, there was no information that the Mendis & Company Limited were attached to Perpetual Treasuries Limited (PTL).

“Not even my friends knew about the connection,” he said.

“If I knew this I would never let my campaign team receive the money as I’m not ready to put mud on me or my team by receiving Rs. 3 million for a campaign that costs Rs. 30 to 35 million,” he said.

He also said that he was labelled as Footnote Gang for revealing Bond Scam damage, however; he and MP Ajith Perera were the only MPS to raise their voice in Parliament to take legal action against the Perpetual Treasuries Limited (PTL) while other Parliamentarians were just shouting holding the Central Bank Governor responsible.

MP Senasinghe added that he maintained a fund of Rs 10.1 million for women at present as a social work and therefore had no need for money from any controversial company. (Thilanka Kanakarathna)

You will not get any merit by donating this money. People are cursing you all on this Bond scandal. You get elected by the people and after coming to power you forget the people and work for the welfare of few Crooked businessmen.

We can ask these questions from Sujeewa:1. Why were you silent until this came out? Did you think the matter will remain hidden? (At least Gen Fonseka acknowledged early, making me respect him more.)2. Why do you want the Speaker or a Prelate to tell you to donate? Do you not have a conscience and are you unable to make your own decisions? 3. If you cannot make your own decisions, did Aloysius et. al. influence your COPE activities/decisions?4. Where would the money to donate come from? Is there evidence that new money was earned honestly?5. Do you realise that even if you did not handle a cent of that money but if it was used by others for YOUR election, then its direct beneficiary was you? (Otherwise you would have had spend your own money on it, if you had any.)6. Do you and other corrupt and rotten politicians in the parliament and elsewhere realise that most people are more intelligent than you seem to think and can understand matters well, whatever spin you try to create?7. By the way, from where did the 30 million come for your campaign?

This is a bribe you were caught accepting and because you were caught you donate. People caught taking bribes go to jail and pay big fines. That is where you should be. And just for curiosity how much more money have you taken which we don't know about. ?

How can Sujeeva say this money was for campaign funds and not a 'BRIBE'? After all we know how Sujeeva tried to defend PTL and said no corruption took place. He is the same man spoke against corruption and was first to sell the 'duty free' official vehicle and laughed all the way to the bank. CHARGE HIM FOR BRIBERY .

So in this situation they are very consen that their money goes to the correct person and Also they are very perticuar that the person concerns knows from where he received this money. So sujeewa can't claim that he doesn't know the receipt of this money and it's dam lie.

He got to accept what he has done in unpardonable and should resign ASAP.We all irrespective of the political party we belong should cry out loud to stop these kind of people coming to power.2. I do not know if these things are happening just because of the conflict between RW and MS. But what ever the circumstances are this is how a country should run.Expose the wrong doers to public and they will the best judges.I request all to be aware that during MR,s time none of these things happened. If any one was obedient to MR or the family they could do any dirty act, murder, and any thing they want. This change is what we expected from this government and I still say Yahapalanaya is 1000 times better than the previous regime.

BOND HORA are you a lawyer or a bus driver? What a funny proposal? People remember how you screamed at MR and the rest calling them rogues. Where are you now? gentlemen politicians such as Gayantha K, Ranjith Madduma Bandara, Sagala Rathnayake, Akila Viraj who never uttered a word against anyone calling Rogues are the real gentlemen. You were screaming on TV talking about your wealthy father and family painting a different picture of you who never knew about your family. You are standing naked now. Leave this Hora Job as a apolitican and pluck coconuts at home .

Why did you accept the money in the first place? You very well knew that the money was tainted and not clean. When you accept dirty money you are also dirty.Didn't your parents ever teach you that any charitable or good deed must be done with clean money? It's useless trying to do good with dirty money. God doesn't accept good deeds done with dirty money.

Definetly, during the Bond Scam, while you were COPE member and speaking to Aloysius during Bond Scam investigations. Please don't try to claim that you did not know who owns Mendis

99%of the MPs are very corrupt. The voters of this country should not vote for any of these corrupt politicians irrspective of their party affiliations. We should never let them get reelected. Current president, the former president, his family, current prime minister and the members of the current parliament should be forced out of politics. I voted for Sirisena at the presidential poll, voted for the unp at the parliamentary vote. Gave my manape to Ranil, Rosy, and Dr. Harsha de Silva. I feel sorry for talented people like Harsha. I will never vote for Sirisena, Ranil or any of the Rajapakses. Let's hope a new face with a new vision will emerge and give leadership to the country.

This is absurd Gentleman. You your proxy took the money since you did not sufficient funds for election campaign. Now barely after three years you are in a position to return such "donated" money back to charity. How did you earn so much of money during the last three years? What about the damage you done to opposition candidates during the election throwing "unjust" money in the campaign? Are you going to resign from the seat?

You have no mandate to give it to Charity, nor can you decide where it should go. You can give for Charity your hard earned money. Its now property of a case, or could be subject to a judiciary process. 1, Handover it to Authorities, 2. Give a honest statement to Inquiring officers, and tell everything you know including the masterminds,3. Withdraw your Book on the subject with an apology and compensation for those who bought the book, 4, Make a Candid statement in Parliament to the country and voters, with an apology. 5. Sacrifice your Seat and go home, if you ever wish to remain in Politics. People well never settle for anything less than, a complete clean up of the present lot.

Donating to these illicit funds to charity MUST NOT GET HIM OFF THE HOOK - BY ANY MEANS.If this issue was not raised he would have jolly well kept the funds! The cat could have jump out of the sack much earlier. That is why you say if any one ask you to pay back you are ready to do so. That makea very ridicule. You have cheated Mendis co.also.

If you have had a glance at the Law Books that are shown behind you, you will that a robber or cheat cannot return the goods and get away from the due punishment. You would have also read of the famous case in India where a person accused of the misuse of the railway line tried to defend his action by saying that others too did the same.
