What else do you expect when the global oil prices increase. MR never reduced fuel prices despite rock bottom oil prices globally. These people at least reduced it when needed
Mm Thursday, 10 May 2018 02:59 PM
Sodha, they reduced only as a election stunt. Listen to rajitha’s speech when he announced the price hike.
Sam Thursday, 10 May 2018 03:08 PM

Kasun Thursday, 10 May 2018 02:48 PM
Like in MR's rule, it is not mentioned that, this is due to oil price change in world market. So what's the reason for the price hike ?
Sickly SriLankan Thursday, 10 May 2018 04:57 PM
The real reason no proper administration in the public sector, Govt. is not atall bothered, they are bothered to increase the strength of Ministers and deputy ministers etc.,
Jal Perera Thursday, 10 May 2018 05:00 PM
Under Yahapalanaya SriLanka's economy dropped to zero, no money to run the show for the next 18 months, so increases will take place every other week.
Memon Thursday, 10 May 2018 02:57 PM

The people have been asked to pay the price of all fraudulent activities that have been committed by this regime, from the bond scam downwards.
Thushara Thursday, 10 May 2018 04:28 PM
Thanx Yahapalanaya. Always you all give us the best. Go head. Buy more vehicles for Ministers and increase the number of foreign tours with families. We Sri Lankans are a much lucky nation........
Niro Thursday, 10 May 2018 04:28 PM
This government is worthless but what is wrong with our middle class? Are petrol prices the biggest issue we got? At least the economy will be stable because selling petrol at 117 was a stupid election promise
Muthu Thursday, 10 May 2018 04:51 PM
When compare to the nearest country, here petrol and Diesel prices are very cheaper. According to Lanka present money value, in India petrol price is Rs.186.60/-
Harini Thursday, 10 May 2018 06:42 PM
True. But you should also keep in mind that in India they manufacture their own cars and the prices are 300% cheaper to purchase than here. So you can afford to pay Rs.30 extra there because you can still afford to buy and use a car! Plus, the majority take the bus and trains which is the backbone of the transport sector. Quality of public transport is also way higher than in Sri Lanka. Forget being like Singapore, we can't even compare ourselves to India because our politicians are letting us down every year!
Jaliya Thursday, 10 May 2018 07:46 PM
Keep in mind that Indian average salary is near double the salary of sri lanka for equivalency employment. with that in mind the fuel is cheaper there than here. Most expensive fuel prices are in third world Asian countries like SLK, BD, IN, NP due to weaker exchange rates.
Harini Thursday, 10 May 2018 04:52 PM
Ohoma yang...ohoma yang...
Prof. W. K. Karunaratne Thursday, 10 May 2018 05:06 PM
Mr. Prez and Mr. Prime Minister, you both are struggling to capture power again and to become the President in 2020, you both are worse than Mahinda I would say. At least, that man robbed but did something for the country, you guys have done nothing but still squeezing the poor man's neck.
Lanka Thursday, 10 May 2018 05:17 PM
When the fuel prices went down nobody didn't bother to appreciate atleast. Now when the hike comes, everyone is panicked. Our people don't care about current world oil price they want everything subsidized. Typical Sri Lankan mentality.
Hesh Thursday, 10 May 2018 06:19 PM
world oil prices are at a record low. Are you a lankaenews reader?

The ever worst government in our history who does not know to run shop even .all jokers The Finance Minister must be sent home
Neo Thursday, 10 May 2018 09:39 PM
You all seem to have forgotten that not once did fuel prices come down during the MR regime. And when it went up, it went up by massive margins. This govt may not be perfect but at least they gave us cheap fuel for 3 years at a loss to the govt. At least be grateful for that. Any govt can only do that for so long. If it was an election gimmick as someone has mentioned here, they could have increased the prices of fuel a few months after the elections, but that did not happen.Unfortunately we are a nation of citizens with extremely short memories.
Lasantha Thursday, 10 May 2018 09:47 PM
Please step down go for fresh election don't burden the people any more

It is amazing that Sri Lankans think that they can have petrol or diesel at BELOW WORLD MARKET PRICES. The country/government has to buy oil internationally at World Market Prices, say $100 for a barrel of oil costs. We pay the oil producing countries (usually in the Middle East) the $ 100 but then sell it locally for $60. The shortfall (subsidy) of $40 has to come from ALL TAXPAYERS in Sri Lanka, including villagers who do not use petrol or diesel. Every time a villager buys a cup of tea or a packet of sugar in the boutique he has to pay the VAT (tax). So the villager and every tax payer in Sri Lanka is subsidising the rich Middle East oil producers. Absurd.

There will be time soon poor farmers will commit suicide due to poverty , just like India. Thanks a lot for the Hike. Srilanka Really a wonder of Asia.
