SriLankan airlines could not be operated as a profitable venture because of its inefficient management, UNP MP Ravi Karunanayake yesterday said.

He told journalists at Thotalanga that appointing a team of competent officials to the Board of Directors to SriLankan airlines could solve the issue.

“The Board of Directors of SriLankan Airlines takes decisions without consulting the Minister,” MP Karunanayake said. (Chaturanga Samarawickrama)

The problem in SL is interference by the politicians. They put in their unqualified kith and kin and their backers into these organisations. The board of directors when appointed their qualifications should be published. If they don't do their jobs properly they should be sacked. Amunugama.

I agree with you 100% but you must also consider the price with the other airlines Approx £100 more than some airlines.Even though most of the Lankans like to fly the flag the price stops them ( including myself) if a family of 3 to 4 flying consider they can spend it in Lanka. Hope the new management will cut waste and make a good things happen.Good Luck

Ravi take an example from Air New Zealand where govt has 52% stake but totally independent and one of the top five airlines worldwide.
