SriLankan flight makes a safe landing at BIA

2017-11-14 09:49:54

A SriLankan aircraft from Colombo to Mumbai made a safe landing at the Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) with 138 passengers and seven crew members early this morning due to a technical failure, a SriLankan Spokesman said.

The flight UL-141, which had taken off from the BIA at 11.47 pm last night, had been in the air for two hours and eight minutes and the technical failure had occurred when the aircraft was getting closer to Mumbai.

The spokesman said that the pilot of the aircraft had informed the BIA control tower about the technical failure and accordingly it had instructed the pilot to return the flight back to the BIA without landing at the Mumbai Airport.

He said the passengers were sent to Mumbai from another SriLankan flight around 3.34 this morning.

The UL-141 SriLankan flight was a French made A- 320 aircraft. (T.K.G Kapila)

It is always good if the "Almighty" can prevent all sorts of disasters, including plain crashes. He has not been so kind for MH370!!!

It is to cover up their fault. Not checked properly.

Varunadhar, the tragedy of MH 370 was the result of a deliberate human act. So dont blame God for it.

If a repair was to be performed in Mumbai the cost would be enormous. Broke sri lankan airlines would have preferred to fix the issue here as it would cost less. No regard for passenger comfort or safety. Thats what you get when you fly a b-grade airline.

We are a country that manipulates the reason for all failures. If the flight landed in India, the Engineers would have found and made public the actual reason for the fault, making it return back to CMB is to manipulate that.

Yes you are absolutely correct. Might be our Sri Lankan Authority consider only the repiaring cost whihc might be more than Sri lanka. If it is the reason it is simply keeping passenger's life very risky

This is strange!!.Avg flying time to Mumbai is 02 hours and 25 mins. SLA telling they came back to BIA after flying 02 hours and 08 minutes..??? If there is a technical failure, landing should be to the nearest air port..why coming back?My flight from Colombo to Dammam on 07th November also diverted to Abu-dhabi suddenly due to technical failure and stopped close to 02 hours in Abu-dhabi for rectification. While commending the safety measures of Pilots and crew, SL airlines should take more precautions of their flights maintenance, specially old flights. Because after a disaster no point doing investigations.

What a dumb move? Even a bird brained SL politician would tell this is dumb. Apparently UL management is even worse than our parliamentarians:-)

Quote : "..accordingly it had instructed the pilot to return the flight back to the BIA without landing at the Mumbai Airport." It was decided by BIA control tower

I have just booked UL for a flight overseas. Am I OK some pundits on aircraft ? There are all sorts of Technical failures. This one deemed safe enough to fly back to base avoiding unnecessary expenses. Most logical thing has happened. By the way Airbus is based in France but the aircraft per say is not a 100 % french product. It is a combined effort of 5 countries. The final assembly takes place in Toulouse France.

A320's are mostly manufactured in Hamburg, Germany or in the UK.
